Why does it seem like everyone gets into a tizzy when a snowstorm hits?

In the supermarkets, the day before a storm, everyone acts like it's the end of the world - so I call them 'the end of the world' shoppers. One cashier at Shaws actually enjoyed that joke. :)

I don't get it either.This is 2017, people. The day after the storm the roads will be (reasonably) clear, the stores will be open for whatever you need to buy, and the world still wags. This isn't the 1800s, it isn't even 1978, and people (and businesses) don't get snowed in for weeks at a time. No need to stock up on milk, eggs and bread if you already have some in the house. I'd also like to know if the people that buy these items because snow is predicted usually buy them anyway, or are they their special "snow provisions"?

Maybe the time change messed people up, but I hit up the grocery store, Home Depot, and a few others this morning on an errand run and they were downright abandoned. Great day to prep!

Costco was a Zoo, but the employees there had it down! They were churning people through the checkout faster than they could queue up to get out the door.

The designation officially known as 'The Zoo', is reserved, in perpetuity, for the chain most people call 'Market Basket'.

Zoo is the name of the railroad interlocking connecting the Northeast Corridor with the Harrisburg line in North Philadelphia. Officially, it was named that by the Pennsylvania Railroad because of the location's proximity to the Philadelphia Zoo. Unofficially, the name is very fitting because of the complexity of the track configuration at the location.
