Here's the view today. Looks like the Esso has become a "Wave". I'm surprised to see that there was such a huge highway sign in the middle of a neighborhood back then.

That big sign on the left, facing away from the camera, looks like it belongs on a freeway, announcing the next exits.

It's a memory now. I've been driving Morton street since the 80's and don't remember it.

Think the junior high was used as a Hebrew school too,not totally sure. That area . of course , went through major changes , so some places are just faint memories seen on the path of Morton street that leads to Gallivan boulevard, and the land of many parishes,
Large Building On the Right?
That was in the mid-70's called the Pauline A. Shaw School annex for the newer (well 1930's) Shaw School across the street (not pictured). I do remember it being in tough shape in the 70's. It was previously known as the Roget Wolcott School and has to be a late 1800's construction.
The building was torn down in the mid 70's as were the similarly built Mary Hemenway School at the corner of King and Adams, the Minot School on Neponset Ave, and the Gilbert Stuart School where the Lower Mills Library is now. The Wolcott School lot remained vacant until Walgreen's was put up in the early 1990s.
The school on the left was a Hebrew School for years (because Mattapan was a huge Jewish working class neighborhood then until everyone left for Randolph, Milton, Newton, and Sharon) and then was city used for a while. It has been a SDA school for probably 20 years now.

For those of you who guessed Morton Street, you are absolutely right! The photograph is not dated but was included in the Mayor John Collins records, so we believe it was taken in the 1960s.
