Just in case your phone didn't start buzzing in paroxysms of warningness

Warning message about flash floods

The National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood warning for Boston and points south through 7:45 p.m. due to radar showing we're about to get blasted with one to two inches of rain in an hour:

As a result, significant urban and poor drainage flooding is expected to rapidly form.

So, you know, stay off Morrissey Boulevard and maybe put off that walk along the Muddy River.

My phone and my husband's phone didn't buzz, but our son's phone and the phones of about half the people in the restaurant did. It was like a muffled chorus of pocket singers.

Mine didn't just buzz but also, out loud, read out the warning in computerized voice - through the phones speaker - despite headphones being plugged into the phone.

.... I was on the O line when this happened... almost all in sync a bunch of people read it and looked up and then carried on with whatever they were reading, listening or playing on their phones. It was truly 2 seconds of unity and bonding....

My old phone works but the GPS and phone portions were having issues so I bought a new phone but kept the old one for use over wifi for music etc. The old one was sitting on a bookcase in my office and started making lots of noise and even started yelling out what the message was. MY new phone waited twenty minutes to give me the warning and it was just a discrete beep with the message looking like a text.

I was in Dorchester and the old phone was on Wifi but the new phone was using cellular towers... for some reason that seemed to make a difference.

Being outside of the warning area, my phone didn't buzz.

Those alerts can be turned off in the Messaging settings. I have AMBER Alerts turned off, but the other alerts are on. Presidential Alerts cannot be turned off.
