Taking down the Sumner Tunnel tolls in East Boston

MassDOT shows us some heavy equipment making a nice snack of the old Sumner Tunnel toll booths, which became obsolete when the state turned on its next-gen E-Z Pass scanner system.

I want to pay cash, not have my whereabouts tracked by the state computer.

Also, did you notice that the only commercial railroad yard in Boston, (near BU/Genzyme) was demolished a few years ago?
So, roads only for shipping bulk goods into the city. That means more expensive, forever (train is cheaper per mile to move). Yard will be built up, gone forever. No electric trains possible at all. Is it a lack of foresight, or just onward with the new by connected developers, or a careful plan by Oil? See: replacing electric trolleys with diesel busses 1930-1950.

Its a slow push to the most profit, not the best for all.

Are we all powerless to stop it, and get the best for everyone?

Harvard bought the land and the city agreed because Harvard basically said it would build a new neighborhood there.

Technically, there's still one rail yard in Boston, in Readville, although it's a lot smaller and they don't offload containers there.

Your car's whereabouts are already easy to know.

It isn't like Massachusetts doesn't have plenty of options for you to not even bother with the toll roads. I find my way around them all the time.

They track the person who owns it, not the vehicle or driver correct....?

Not just at toll locations. I don't know whether MA currently does this.

It'll take you awhile, but it's doable.

I take Route 2.

The Turnpike is also better maintained, plus they warn drivers well in advance, of upcoming exits, to boot.

Route 2 to North Adams or Williamstown, Route 8 or 7 south to Pittsfield. Long, but scenic. Good food along the way as well.
