Roslindale Community Center Enters The Web

After the customary discussion period and decision-making process, the Roslindale Community Center has launched a web site which outlines its programming and operational hours. URL: http://www.roslindalecc.org
The web site actually launched at the beginning of October of 2008 but is just now starting to get some mention in the press.
The center chose to use the facilities of Google Sites as its foundation. Google Sites is a free and easy-to-use web publishing system that almost any person can use without needing to know the ins-and-outs of HTML language and its many progeny. By using Google Sites' rich text editor almost any person can perform timely updates as necessary, and it can be integrated with other free Google applications.
The present web site is limited to the schedule and program listings and hours of operation but will be expanded in the upcoming weeks and months as additional descriptive pages are added to offer specifics and images from each program.
The community center web site includes information for the Roslindale Community Center (Roslindale Sq), Archdale Community Center (Brookway Rd.), and the Flaherty Swimming Pool (Florence St. at Healy Playground).
The centers are presently interesting in expanding their program offerings to the public. If there are individuals that have something to offer or share that may be of interest in the area of workshops, classes, or other presentations, they can contact the Roslindale Community Center Council at [email protected] or [email protected]

Community Center Websites
Wouldn't it be better to put all Boston community centers under one website? It'd share costs and I doubt they'll have much traffic, other than folks looking up calendars and getting phone numbers... to me non-consolidation is just impractical, as all the Boston community centers could use the web presence.
To Web or Not to Web
On paper having all community centers in one place makes sense, but the City/BCYF web site is lacking in this area and there is no staff to support it. Let's also condider a lack of software as well.
Some information regarding youth programs is farmed out to sites such as Boston Navigator or the City School Department site but that leaves adult programming out.
By developing its own web presence, the first community center in Boston to apparently do so, the center is assuring its information is readily available. Other centers are also looking at doing this even though BCYF discourages such independent presentations.
