The Esplanade Association reports it's banned a series of Philadelphia-related items from the 3.5-mile Park until after the Patriots make their return to Boston for their Duck Boat celebration.
Now banned from the Museum of Science to the BU Bridge:
Any Philadelphia sports apparel (Flyers, Phillies, 76ers, and Eagles included)
Eagles (yes, even bald eagles)
Cheesesteak sandwiches
Cracked copper bells
Soft Pretzels
Philadelphia brand Cream Cheese (other brands of cream cheese permitted)
Anything in the shade “Midnight Green”
Mummers
Will Smith and Sylvester Stallone
Crisco
In a statement, association Executive Director Michael Nichols said:
We realized that appearing in a Super Bowl for only the third time – and first time since losing to the Patriots in 2005 – was disorienting for Philadelphia fans and that clarity on acceptable items to bring in our park should be offered. Given the Patriots are appearing in their record-extending 10th Super Bowl, we understand this information may not be needed by most park visitors.
The Esplanade Association thanks the public for their cooperation with these temporary policy changes.

Simple, what the ACLU would need is someone to go out there and get told to leave because they were carrying one of these banned items. Of course this is all a (stupid) joke so I doubt they'd actually make someone leave.

I hope someone violates the ban so the ACLU can sue. Mayors making friendly wagers is one thing, but this is an organization abusing their rule-making authority and the First Amendment just to show some sort of perverse tribal pride for what amounts to a single game.
We're better than this.

Crisco only became associated with Philadelphia on Sunday, when the city DPW used it to grease up city light poles in an attempt to keep fans from climbing them after the NFC championships. It didn't work.
Wow, I think I overheard someone talking about that today.

But I assumed they were talking about that festival in Gloucester when people climb out over the water on a greased pole.

That’s just stupid and not even funny (if that’s what they’re trying to do). Also goes against the Patriots Way of being gracious to their opponents. Also, aren’t nonprofits required to put effort toward whatever they’re chartered to do, rather than whatever the people running it feel like?
That's one way of putting it
By Smart Arse
Tue, 01/23/2018 - 9:21pm
Well that is the real joke.
Sure they're gracious all right. The Patriots used to take photos of their guests during the game. How nice of them! And just last year they even tested the guests' fire alarm at the hotel before the game. You know, just to make sure it worked.

Put down the phone, no need to call the ACLU, let go of the pearls, it'll be ok.
I'd suggest that one think rationally about (a) how such a ban would be enforced, and (b) what the penalty would be (have we deputized the Esplanade Association so that they write tickets, or does the Esplanade Association's decree get enforced by MSP just because?), but it's clear from these comments that people don't think rationally about things anymore.

Philadelphia cream cheese is from Philadelphia, NY. But great work
Wikipedia says otherwise - see Footnote #12
By Belmont
Tue, 01/23/2018 - 6:37pm
"Jeffrey A. Marx, “Philadelphia Comes to New York: The Marketing of Cream Cheese in New York State,” New York History, Quarterly Journal of the New York State Historical Association and The State University of New York College at Oneonta 96, no. 2 (2015). Histories that imply the cheese was produced in Philadelphia, PA, or Philadelphia, NY, are incorrect. Marx (2012); International Cheese Company v. Phenix Cheese Company."
OTOH
By Belmont
Tue, 01/23/2018 - 6:43pm
"When cream cheese first appeared in the United States, in the first half of the nineteenth century, it was produced in small batches by many farmers (in New York State, not Pennsylvania). Because of the quality of the cream cheese produced in and around Philadelphia, the town name became associated with the product, although cream cheese as a manufactured product, in larger batches, came from elsewhere in New York State. The Philadelphia brand is currently owned by Kraft."
No source given.
I'm disappointed there is no town in Pennsylvania called "New York."

Will Smith but make no mention of DJ Jazzy Jeff. "The Magnificent" should always be allowed to go anywhere he wants! Prince can stick to his Scientology or whatever weird shit he is into these days....
Also, Mummers should never be banned from anything. They are merry-makers! Its like banning Keytar Bear from Times square. Have a HEART!
I am obviously rooting for the Pats but I love Philly and have many friends there, go for New Years every year cuz it is a party Boston could never dream of throwing. I will have to hide my fan-dom more than I already do if Brady brings another one home!

Yes, we had an avian violator just a few days ago, and he/she is probably still soaring around in the vicinity.
In fact it was sighted (and photographed) by an Esplanade Association employee:
https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2018/01/18/bald-...
Of course, the Esplanade Association has no legal standing in this matter themselves, the park is owned and managed by the state, er, Commonwealth government -- which probably has more than a few legal eagles (BC law graduates) around to make and enforce the official policies.
