Who had January 29 in the Storrow pool?

Storrowed truck on Storrow Drive

Good thing he wasn't hauling anything hazardous, eh? Photo by Tracy Walsh.

Sometime around 1:30 a.m., a semi driver thought it would be a good idea to get on Storrow Drive inbound. The train bridge near BU quickly informed him otherwise by turning his big rig into a much smaller rig.

Rick Macomber shows us the view from the other side of the bridge, which, of course, is famous for being the only place in America where you can smash a truck under a train that is passing under a car while a plane flies overhead:

No injuries, Rick Macomber reports.

At what point is there structural damage to the bridge? That's beyond the normal shaving of a small box truck.

Shut Storrow Drive down. Drivers have proven for years that they have no interest in reading signs or following laws. Cities like Paris are shutting down water side roads and giving the waterfront back to the people. There should never have been a road put there in the first place since it so heavily detracts from the river. The Storrow family was in favor of a riverside park and against the terrible decision to put a highway next to the river.

Drivers Road designers have proven for years that they have no interest in reading improving signs or following beyond the absolute minimum described by laws.

Take the pike - the INTERSTATE FREEWAY that is TWO BLOCKS away!

Its because the signage isn't clear enough to explain it to them, gosh what an oversight!

Sorry, but this one is on the "professional" driver.

Shut down Storrow Drive? Bad idea Opie.

He hasn't met a road he doesn't want to close down.

Most people learn before they reach double-digit age that roads are for cars and cars are for people needing to travel long distances, but some people don't. We just have to use soothing tones and give him his safe space and he'll probably be fine.

Traffic would be horrible and I know my getting around town would be horrendous since I frequently use Storrow (although I no longer have to commute on it), but I actually agree with this, god help me.

Maybe storrow should have tolls? Enormous expensive eyesore flooding hazard does not add value to the city. Drivers should pay for it.

They should ban trucks and other overheight vehicles from Storrow Drive.

Can't we put Storrow and Memorial Drive underground?
Plenty of experience now with BIg Dig One.

neither road is needed, and both should just be eliminated.

You need to do it on that alternate universe planet where there isn't impending sea level rise and climate change coming to reclaim the Back BAY.

They shutdown the waterfront roadway in Portland Oregon many years back. It's now part of 'Waterfront Park" and both beautiful and a great place to find solace (or play frisbee) in the city. My personal feeling as someone who lived there during the change and had to commute often to the city (I worked there) was that traffic improved. But maybe that's just a Portlandia thing, not a Bostonlandia thing...

At least he or she was wearing a seatbelt.

He didn't kill someone taking a turn faster than he should have without a flag vehicle that was required and then drive off.

1) spot on with the thankfully nothing hazardous (if this is in fact correct);
2) the trestle actually looks like it is a little crumpled - it will be interesting to see if there is structural damage; and
3) MassDOT will somehow use threats of Storrowing as the latest reason why they cannot build West Station on the front end of the Allston project and use the Grand Junction to connect it to Kendall.

It is the only place in America and perhaps the world where a boat can be foundering under a truck which is Storrowing under a train derailing under a plane which is stalling.

I just found at least two spots in Pittsburgh where a truck can crash under a train under a car which then passes over a boat on a river while a plane flies overhead. It would have to be an overheight truck or a dump truck with its bed raised, though.

And I think you're also forgetting the Zakim Bridge area. There a subway train can pass under a boat passing under a commuter train passing under a car on a highway ramp while passing under a truck, which is also passing over a skateboarder and a bicyclist while overhead a maintenance worker fixes the strobe light in the Zakim tower and meanwhile a helicopter flies over everything.
