UPDATE: NBC Boston reports the man, in his 80s, died.
Rick Macomber reports a man was hit around 10:30 p.m. by a dump truck on Mass. Ave. whose driver then continued onto the turnpike. State Police stopped the truck on the turnpike in Weston.
The Globe reported:
"Mass Pike ramp in Back Bay closed by police
with no details about the pedestrian hit, or the truck, only that police could not be reached for comment about why the ramp was closed.
The article has a byline and one additional named contributor, for essentially no information. Just a promise that the article would be updated when info became available
Posted sometime before 1:34 am, the time the first Globe commenter posted, noting that UHub had actual facts about the incident. An update later this morning mentions the pedestrian hit but no info about the dump truck.

Did he dish about Gronk's response to Mark Wahlberg's comments about Gisele's reaction to the thing that I've already forgotten what it was originally about
.... from where the cyclist was dragged under the wheels of a big truck making a right turn and killed.
That driver also continued on his way without stopping.
There's a law that if you hit someone but don't know, you're not held accountable. So of course the driver will claim he had no idea even if he failed to look and/or made too wide of a turn. (Or did look and just didn't care.)
Expose yourself on the subway and the cops stop at nothing to press charges (which is good) but you can kill someone with inattentiveness or outright maliciousness and provided it's with a vehicle the police just shrug. If I had to pick just one, go after the actual killers.
...And now someone will falsely accuse me of being a car hater.
A license to drive is literally a license to kill. The laws in this country shielding drivers from responsibility for the death and damage they cause are disgusting. No need to become James Bond to get away with taking someones life.
There are - conceivably - some limited cases where a driver goes on because they actually didn't realize they'd hit someone/something and they might end up not being charged for leaving the scene of a crash. That has nothing to do with what charges may or may not result from their actions leading up to the crash.
Pretty much. The DAs have basically said that unless you're drunk, high, impaired in some way, or knowingly tried to kill someone, then it's not a crime. All you have to do is claim "I didn't see them" and you're off the hook. It's outrageous.
I think the DAs would take you to task for that statement. And since they are not on this public forum to defend themselves against your allegations, perhaps you should not make wild accusations?
Get caught with a single empty shell casing in MA without a license and a DA will be threatening you with a 10 year felony sentence unless you accept a plea deal. Run over an elderly person with your car, leave the scene, and claim "didn't see them", DA is not going to even bother prosecuting you let alone trying to bully a plea bargain settlement half the time.
A driver's license is literally a license to kill in MA. The wet noodle wrist slap serial drunk drivers get should be a hint the judiciary and prosecutors could care less about careless car related carnage.
Hell even driving without a license in MA is no big deal. Ram a state legislator while drunk without a license on the pike and be back on the streets in a matter of days. Rear end a cop and it's no big deal to anyone except the insurance company. These stories have repeatedly turned up on UHub over the years. The law is a joke when it comes to negligent operation of a motor vehicle. No teeth! Not even granny's dentures!
My heart goes out to the man who was killed. I walk a mile through downtown Boston every day and I'm stunned by the callousness of drivers. Unless laws and society make a 180 degree turn, they essentially own the roads. It doesn't have to be this way. I encourage everyone to read this:
Excerpt: "Before formal traffic laws were put in place, judges typically ruled that in any collision, the larger vehicle — that is, the car — was to blame. In most pedestrian deaths, drivers were charged with manslaughter regardless of the circumstances of the accident."
Pedestrians need to put their head up when they’re walking down the street, take your headphones off … you’ve got to understand, cars are going to hit you.
Agreed. We should totally be able to immerse ourselves in our digital lives while walking thru the city and leave our personal safety in the hands of drivers. What could possibly go wrong?
who walks many miles in the city each day, you need to be aware. That means when I cross roads, I look, especially if I have head phones on. Nothing wrong here.
I have the benefit of knowing who this man was and what happened (to more of an extent than anyone but the family). The man had just left the gym and was on his way home. It was late in the evening when this occurred and the man who passed away was over 75 years old, yet in better shape mentally and physically than many people half his age. Where did you read that he was using headphones? Do you even know how noisy it is on Mass Ave at ANY time of day? Only noise-cancelling headphones would have a chance of blocking out all the noise.
This man lived in the area a long time. He graduated from a local prestigious college. He was an intelligent man who knew how to walk the streets of Boston.
You are blaming the pedestrian who was in no way at fault. Don't be a jerk by placing blame when you obviously don't know the facts of the situation. Oh, sorry - you already placed blame where it doesn't belong because you know nothing about the situation. You ARE a jerk.
Drivers must have windows open at all times. Drivers must also have all electronic sound sources turned off. Drivers are far more cut off from the world by their soundproof booths on wheels than cyclists and pedestrians are by headphones.
Engine noise must also be prohibited to avoid distracting drivers or keeping them from hearing what is going on around them. Removed the entire top cab, too - gets in the way of their vision.
I cross there pretty often and that intersection has a lot of aggressive traffic racing to get on the pike and through the light. The intersections at Mass & Comm, Newbury, & Boylston Streets are wicked dangerous

EDIT Comment edited to address copyright concerns
And another Globe Fail
Posted obituary of Janet Jeghelian (RIP) contains no mention of Ted O'Brien, her WRKO co-host.
Not fair use

Lately the Globe has been too busy...
... reporting on everything Tom Brady to be concerned with real news.
I come to Uhub first.
Wait, is there Tom Brady news?
Did he dish about Gronk's response to Mark Wahlberg's comments about Gisele's reaction to the thing that I've already forgotten what it was originally about
Just a few blocks away....

Maybe this time the police
Maybe this time the police and DA won't blame the victim though. I hope this gentleman is ok.
He's not OK
He died this morning.
Terrible news!

Massachusetts laws suck

MARTY said that?!?!
That's the first instance of common sense I've ever heard from him. Huh...even a busted clock is right twice a day I suppose....
You should always be watching ...
For trucks driving on the sidewalk to run you down and pretend that nothing happened as they drag your corpse through the street.
Yeah. Common sense my as. Learn to drive.
Yes, as a pedestrian
