Temple Place shut

Normally bustling street shut. Photo by Felicity Lingle.

He seems to have been shot on Washington and was walking towards Tremont, but didn't make it that far.

And the powers that be think that luxury highrises full of empty investment properties are going to lift up the neighborhood.

Do you remember 1980s Times Square? The Combat Zone in Boston? Have you visited San Francisco or Vancouver, British Columbia pver, say, the past 10 years? Are you familiar with L.A. downtown skidrow? I'm familiar with all these places.

Trend lines have Boston crime getting worse under Marty, which by the way is an outlier amount other similar cities that continue to see decreases in violent crime.

He's oddly quiet about the plans to stop the creep. We do have plans, right?

20 million dollar deals to Amazon don't seem to be helping.

However we don't seem to have any alternatives to Walsh. Tito who wanted to pay criminals to behave or Wu who clearly isn't a tough on crime candidate.

Where are our 1980-1990 style democrats? Maybe Michael Flaherty!

There was also a stabbing as well as a separate knife fight/chase there today and a car theft.

... outside the high rises, white collar crime inside them.

Walked by there an hour before the shooting. Passed a rowdy group of gangbangers, two of which were having a heated argument. I wonder if they were involved.

It's to bad you have to label people "Rowdy Gangbangers" I seen a lot of Rowdy heroin addicts hanging around. James why do you think the Boston Police did nothing to break up these "Rowdy Gangbangers" as you call them, and why was there a Broad daylight shooting in a tourist area in the shadow of a $37 million penthouse. Boston police weak on crime strong on detail, salary & overtime payments!!!

It is very easy for teenagers to get a hand gun, and we need to find out why. Everyone reads the news stories about shootings, but what people don't see is children with zero history of delinquent acts being arrested with hand guns. We need to investigate the history of every illegal gun and study how firearms are entering the state.

Teenagers with guns are dangerous criminals, but they are not gangbangers. A gang is a criminal organization that makes money. These kids may say they are in a gang, and dress in outfits that they believe represent the gang, but they are not members of anything. These guns are bought for $100 or less. The kids at downtown crossing got there with their M7 T pass. If you not making enough paper to afford a whip, your crime is not organized. These dangerous young people are really just deluded fanboys wearing merch. The real gangs benefit because they look bigger, but they just use these kids.

Do you know how difficult it can be to trace 1 firearm. You can trace it back to the manufacturer and then where the manufacturer sent it to. From there the digital trail often ends. Many gun brokers keep paper records. So if I find out the gun was sent to Wilcox Bait and Tackle in Newport News, VA, I would then have to contact that store and determine who they sold it to. I would then have to find that person and determine why they no longer had possession of their firearm. Often times they will say it was lost or stolen and the trail runs cold. This is a huge undertaking. To get an idea where many of the guns originate from check out the ATF page:

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/undefined/2016tracestatsmassachusettsp...

MA has closed some of these loopholes by making every sale or transfer ocurring in the state go through a digital platform. The problem is that it only tracks legally registered Firearms.

I am saying it is the only way out.

Honestly, I wonder if all of the gun purchasing surges creates these surplus guns that get sold under the table.

when I say purchasing surges, I mean whenever we get talking about gun laws, and then people run out and buy guns before said gun is illegal.

Hey no name nobody. Where do you live, Moss Hill in progressive JP? Brattle Street in Cambridge? You sound like you've been reading the Globe too much. Wake up to reality.

Even though DTX seems to be somewhat improving lately particularly on Washington Street with the recent opening of Major retailers such as Primark, and old Navy, The Godfrey, and a bunch of coffee shops, some of those side streets seem to be lagging behind. Particularly Temple and West, those streets seem to give off a sketchy vibe.

The sooner that people get over the idea that simply putting in a "Major[sic]" retailer is going to improve things, the sooner that problems will get solved.

The Common is a tourist area. That means a few different things, including large numbers of people who have at least some cash and may not be good at spotting scammers, and a lot of public spaces to sit, stand, lean, etc. without having to be going anywhere or doing anything. Those are the magnets. Adding retail doesn't change that.

It's just that simple in a city that lacks police protection. And it's gonna be a bloody summer because the mayor is more interested in building monstrosities than saving lives. Get ready I'm afraid for my life everyday In this city.

They might be able to use more funds for community efforts, but I don't think the issue is a lack of policing.

Regression of the economic and civic outreach programs from city hall seems to be the issue. They're just not focused on getting kids off the streets and into internships and other programs like they used to be.
