Walsh vetoes landmark status for Citgo Sign, but signs agreement that will keep the beacon up for at least 30 years

a cheesy advertising sign would put the same effort into preserving the period buildings that are around it.

the majority of the people that care about that silly sign are suburbanite sportsball fans.

take that crap down and put up something that represents Boston.

with the Fontaine's chicken.

about the sign getting landmark status, the lead here is another shining example of developers having Marty in their pocket.

"Build anything you want."

I'm pretty sure neither one is good for our fair city.

No doubt looking to ear-mark a city structure to memorialize himself a la Ray Flynn Bridge... Citgo shall outlast them both!

The Mayor Marty Walsh Methadone Mile

Meanwhile, the guy who served between Flynn and Walsh had, off the top of my head, a wing of a library, a community center, and a wing of the hospital he gave to Boston University named after him, all while he was in office.

Flynn got a part of the Marine Industrial Park named after him, 20 years after leaving office.

Each side gave a little bit and in the end we get something that is good for everyone. I know this is unfamiliar these days - compromise that is - but it's how things are SUPPOSED to work.
