Charlestown traffic stop ends with arrest, seizure of a loaded gun

Boston Police report arresting a Brockton man, originally from Jamaica Plain, on gun charges Thursday night.

Police report officers on patrol in the area of Bunker Hill and Monument streets shortly before 8:30 p.m. noticed a car with heavily tinted windows and an expired registration sticker.

Officers approached the vehicle and immediately smelled the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. While speaking with the operator, officers observed the passenger with a green substance believed to be marijuana inside of a tray between his feet. At this time, both the operator and passenger were removed from the vehicle. Inside of the rear climate control panel, officers subsequently located a black Smith & Wesson .32 long revolver loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. The operator of the motor vehicle was taken into custody while the passenger was identified and released from the scene.

Laron Richardson, 30, of Brockton, was arraigned today on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and having an open container of marijuana in a vehicle. Charlestown Municipal Court Judge Lisa Grant set bail at $2,500 and ordered him to stay out of Charlestown while the case is pending, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

This is not Richardson's first brush with the law in Boston. In 2009, when he still lived in Jamaica Plain, a Suffolk Superior Court jury acquitted him of murder for the death of Analicia Perry, gunned down on Albert Street in Roxbury as she lit a candle for her brother, murdered at the same location four years earlier.

Innocent, etc.

Illegally tinted windows and an expired registration sticker.

Those are safety violations even if it was a church deacon on her way home from bingo.

You wouldn't want that car to hit you, you and your bike, or your car because they couldn't see where they were going and didn't have insurance.

Is marijuana not legal yet?

But that doesn't mean there aren't restrictions on it that can lead to your arrest if you don't obey them.

Ethanol is legal, too. But there are still limits on the forms and quantities that you may possess, and the conditions under which you consume it.
