Farewell Dickie!
By Innismir on Wed, 02/04/2009 - 5:23pm
WCVB has announced that Dick Albert is retiring, with his last broadcast being 2/26. Harvey Leonard will take on Albert's duties at 5 and 6PM. Farewell and good luck Dickie!
Now, how does the extra Harvey Leonard affect the French Toast Alert level?

A double dose of Harv?
Better lay in some extra stock of Mrs. Butterworth!
I remember people thought
I remember people thought they were crazy a few years ago when they decided they wanted both of Bostons most well known weathermen, now it seems like a very good move.
That's agreed, ShadyMilkMan.
One famous weatherman is all that's necessary around here.
Right now, U-H is saying
Right now, U-H is saying
I thought green was low. The forecast shows no snow for the next week. I'm so confused.
When in doubt, go with the color, not the word
Fixing now, sorry. I hope nobody made planting decisions based on that word.
No,
I wasn't planning on planting anything for a few months, anyway.
I'm almost embarrassed to say this but...
Dickie has been the ONLY weatherman I've followed my whole adult life. When I left home and went to college in Colorado, Dickie was my weatherman. And I really liked him when he was a young pup, all filled with vinegar and passion for his job. And then I moved to Boston for Grad school, and who follows me but Dickie. I came first, he arrived about 3 years later, but one day there he was on Channel 5, and I've never had allegience to any other weatherman since.
I'm really gonna miss him. Sob.

I went through withdrawal when Don Kent left the scene. You'll get through it :-)

Ooh, look, you'll still be able to follow Dickie
Dick Albert - Spreading the Weather Word.
Via Boston TV News.
Wonk
I've enjoyed Dickie over the years, but was always a bigger fan of Mike Wankum, formerly of the Channel 56 news. Interesting that Channel 5 pretty much has three chief meteorologists on staff...
Watch out New Hampshire, Al
Watch out New Hampshire, Al may be next!
Channel 5 meterologists
Actually, there are at least 4 meterologists at Channel 5. Dickie, Harv, Mike Wankum (best last name ever), and J.C. Monahan, who is on from 5 am to noon. I like her a lot although there are days when I scream at the TV because she often really needs a stylist.
Best Last Name Ever?
Isn't there a professional poker player whose last name is Moneymaker?
Chris Moneymaker
He won the World Series of Poker in 2005 or 2006.

Quite frankly,
I found Dick Albert's whole style rather off-putting, so I made a point of not tuning him in.
