American pride of workmanship

American made? No

At Home is the newish replacement for the old Dedham Sears and it's just the place to go if you need vague art and fake plants (including tiny little fake cacti) to furnish your home. We checked it out today and were particularly struck by the piece of wood shown above - emblazoned with American pride on the front and a little "Made in China" sticker on the back.

We did not buy the "American Made" plaque thing made in China.

As for what you really meant, don't you have a flight to Moscow to catch?

The woman who made the video was talking about strange things Americans do, from an Irish perspective. One of them was that Americans tend to make everything about politics.

But yeah, it is kind of dumb that "American Made" plaque is in fact made in China. That should be something immune from politics.

Is this posting a dig and things made in America as if to imply they support Trump?

Love it or leave it, dude

Because those are the only two options.

When I was a young whippersnapper love it or leave it was the silly thing that folks who were living in their own personal stoneage would say when they freaked out with hearing uncomfortable ideas.

Proof that not everybody manages to mature beyond their jr. high selves.

Went to the Xmastree Shopppeeee on a crazy Saturday once to pick up dishpans for our temp kitchen while we demolished/renovated. It was a nuthouse. At one point my then 10 year old son tugged my sleeve and pointed to a solitary sign hovering above the fray, one of several like it in a jumbled pile of crap.

It said "Simplify".

I think Adam's find just outdid that!

I remember a Globe article that referred to such places as existing for those who are "looking for things to need".

25% more expensive and still a bargain at $6.24.

Unfortunately for Uhub readers and ride-share companies, bicycles and bike parts also on the list.

But seriously, almost everything people commonly buy is on the list. Unless you live in a hut and grow your own food, the prices you pay will go up.

Of course.. it might have been a banner on FoxNews as I was walking by the TV at work but

I'm looking sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo forward to paying 3.99/lb for tomatoes soon, as what I read (or heard) that tomatoes will go up 80%

Farm Share.

Or you can come by in a couple of weeks and get some sets for a container garden. My man has been using his weedinator to speed up their maturation process.

Do people buy tomatoes that AREN'T from USA or Italy? Or Mexico? None of those places are on the tariff list are they? Well....maybe Mexico...

They affect a vast number of manufactured products. The increased tariffs are on many different componants as well as finished goods. I work for a company that manufactures componants for furniture, most of our sales are to companies that assemble the goods in US factories. We have lost $130,000 so far in an attempt to avoid passing on the increased costs to our customers and the end-consumers. We've had to rethink that strategy, since we've lost what is equal to about 3 salaries in half a year. Consumer prices will continue to rise. Demand will continue to fall. And the American jobs that exisit- at both the companies that design and import goods manufactured in China and the companies that use them as components in American-assembled products, will suffer.

If you'd like to see a list of the items that just went to the 25% surcharge, you can here: https://ustr.gov/sites/default/files/enforcement/301Investigations/Tarif...

Please remember that most of these items already had a tariff on them, generally 8-14% for the items I deal with. So now the tariff on them is 32%-39%.
