The State House News Service reports Cape legislators invited reporters to a State House briefing about how to keep Cape tourists from being chomped by sharks this summer, or something to that effect, but then banned the reporters who actually showed up, claiming the room was just too small.

If there's an impact on the Cape tourism industry, it won't be caused by shark attacks, it'll be caused by people's utter inability to think sanely about risk.
Therefore, the problem that needs to be solved is not shark attacks, it's innumeracy. Legislators are barking up the wrong tree.
Whatever the problem, "Better education" is almost always the answer.

the answer would be not go to the cape beaches and stay out of the water.
who is going to spend $200 a night for a crap hotel if they cant go plant their asses on the beach for the day with the family? last time i checked swimming in the ocean is a big part of going to the beach. worrying about a shark biting someones arm off is not relaxing. im taking my kids to the white mountains this summer. too nervous in denisport last summer.
Are you crazy?!

There are deadly bears in the White Mountains! And there have been WAY more bear sightings than shark sightings!

As you contemplate possible bad outcomes, are you more worried about your kid dying from a shark attack, more worried about your kid dying in a crash caused by a drunk or texting driver, or about equally worried abiut the two?

im more worried about the sharks bob. we can get wiped out by drunks and texters right here in the city. great white sharks tend to stay in the ocean.
kaz, not worried about bears attacking. i heard all the bears went back to Canada after that Bruins travesty the other night.
