What's green and white and indecipherable all over?
Transit Police report arresting a Jamaica Plain man on charges he was caught red-handed spraying green and white graffiti on a wall at the Hynes Green Line stop last night.
Police say officers responded around 11:15 p.m. to the station after somebody reported a guy spray-painting the side of the station.
Officers were able to locate a male fitting the description, later identified as Alexa Royce, 28, of Jamaica Plain. Royce was shirtless and officers observed white paint splattered about his abdomen and green paint on his fingertips. Officers also discovered Royce was in possession of five green and white spray paint cans. Royce was positively identified as the person defacing/vandalizing the station.
Police add puzzled officers tried to decipher what he had sprayed, to no avail:
When asked what he sprayed on the building Royce responded " It's my personal art. I don't want to share that with you".
And with that, they put him in a cruiser for a ride to Transit Police headquarters on Southampton Street to be booked on a formal charge of tagging.
Innocent, etc.

Reminds me of when I saw the Jordan's Furniture guy at the grand opening of Primark in the Filene's building. He was looking at some sweaters, quite unimpressed with the craftsmanship. He picked a couple up, swung them around and looked at them like they were shoddy curiosities, then dropped them back on the pile with a shake of his head.

I used to work in the area and eat my lunch in a surprisingly quiet section of the Pru, near the back entrance of the Mandarin. That slicked back silver pony tail is a dead giveaway.

While I'd rather not say where I work, I was doing a training in a closed off area and this guy walked in, and I told him the area was closed and he needed to leave. Turned out to be Eliot of Jordan's and my workplace was hoping he'd make a donation. So yeah....I threw the guy out. Oops.

Surely, the "artist" was making a commentary on the obesity epidemic. Those letters are so bloated that they barely resemble the letters they once were.

Walking through Harvard Square a few days ago, I noticed someone selling painted canvases -- about the size of that ubiquitous stencil -- that read "NOT ART". Wonder if it's the same guy.
Or maybe there are more then one NOT ART stencilers? Perhaps their number is legion?

Bloated "letters" that look like loops of bowel are dumb looking and all about marking territory and, sometimes, mental illness.
I know a woman who does amazing murals, though, and her renderings of people are particularly amazing. She travels around and has no shortage of people buying her supplies to turn their garage doors, older motorhomes and cars, and blank walls into her canvasses.
The problem of graffiti isn't a problem of art vs not art, but an issue of consent.

You just don't understand graffiti and it's history. Read up on it and then you'll understand the reasoning behind it and how it's all interpretive and as the saying going "Art is in the eye of the beholder. What you see is not necessarily what I see or read. That's is the true beauty of graffiti. S!

Not provide the police with what he had painted was a smart move on his part. Had he told the police the name he had painted on the wall it's possible he could have been charged with additional acts of vandalism bearing his name.

Before the picture was available, I assumed he painted his tag and didn’t want the cops to tack on additional charges for all the other places they logged the same name.
And voila, it’s just a tag.

Hopefully this guy isn't living in a JP artist loft. I can think of nicer artists who don't deface other property who are looking for housing to avoid homelessness. This guy needs to go to Key West, Florida and paint graffiti on surf boards. Then go test them in shark infested waters.
