Dog, owner rescued from pond in Franklin Park

The Boston Fire Department reports that around 4:45 p.m., firefighters and EMTs responded to Scarboro Pond in Franklin Park to rescue a dog that had fallen through the ice - and her owner, who did the same trying to rescue her pet but who managed to make her way to one of the islands in the pond.
Tech Rescue members in survival suits went into the water to get to access the island . They deployed a Zodiac boat to transport the woman and her dog to safety. The woman was taken by @BOSTON_EMS for evaluation. pic.twitter.com/aobcB57IP8

1. Did the little guy's brute force rip the leash into shreds?
2. Did the little guy's brute force simply tear the leash from owner's grip?
3. Did the little guy have no leash?

I, too, am glad that both the dog and his owner are both dry and warm.
People do all kinds of stupid things
People do all kinds of stupid irresponsible things. The drive over the speed limit. They store flammable clutter improperly in their houses. They eat artery destroying diets . They let dogs off leashes where they shouldn’t. And emergency services, fire departments, hospitals and the like generally address the immediate consequences without a whole lot of moralizing.
No time to moralize or find fault.
Emergency services are doing their duty.
Doesn’t mean risky and reckless behavior shouldn’t be called out after the crisis.
If dog was off leash owner should be ticketed and charged for the cost of the rescue.
It’s a well known off leash area,
much like Sherwood Forest.

.. hardly equate with smoking. Now that’s common sense.

But untrue.
With the exception of parts of Boston Common, there are no off leash areas in Boston parks.
There are dog parks in Boston.
Two in the North End, Peters Park in the South End, one in Allston, one in South Boston. Also in JP there is a small area at Angell Memorial, for leash-free dogs--though it has limited hours.

But my overall point is there- there are official off leash area and there are places where dog owners think it's find to break the law.

Franklin Park is overrun with off leash dogs. There is crap everywhere. I'm sick of it. I hope this moron learned her lesson.

In no way absolves this owner or other dog owners of responsibility to keep their dog leashes and to clean up after it.
You do see the difference between feces and cigarette butts, health wise, or dies that have to be explained to you too?
Yet somehow
We've got a dog that miraculously ended up in Scarborough Pond even though Parks Department regulations state that in Franklin Park, dogs are to be on a leash.
You gotta know that when me a Kinopio are in agreement, your argument might be weak. Heck, I've become a supporter of dog parks, but I can't stand dog owners who up and decide that this soccer field or that baseball diamond is a place to let their dogs run wild because, well, they are special and above the law.
Then please let the City know
that we need more dog parks!!
