As a longtime reader of the “Irish Sports Pages”
In the time leading up to Covid-19, the Sunday Globe death notices has been getting bigger and bigger. I’d say 6 pages, maybe 7, was the norm.
Just putting a perspective on things. Also, he left out the full page ad on page A3. That was a heck of a remembrance of John T Callahan Jr.
I noticed the same thing
Just heartbreaking....
I think part of why it's so many pages
is because each obituary is now like a column. They used to be a paragraph each.
They are all paid for
All the obits with a picture are paid for by the family. The more you write, the more it costs. I'm not complaining, it's one of the new sources of advertising that hasn't dried up during this crisis.

to be fair
They seem to save them all for Sunday. The rest of the week there's barely a page.

And considering the font size they use, less death notices than in the 1970s.
