Massachusetts joins consortium of Northeast states to buy PPE, coronavirus tests, ventilators and other medical supplies

Imagine if we had a functioning central government to coordinate such purchases. Instead, however, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today:
NY, NJ, CT, PA, DE, RI and MA are launching a regional purchasing consortium to jointly procure PPE, tests, ventilators and other medical equipment.
This will increase our market power and help prevent price-gouging.
States are stronger when we work together.

Where are you, Maryland?
You obviously belong in this group, but you're not there.
Where's the rest of New England, for that matter?
Vermont? NH? Maine?
Predominantly rural, low-density states
which may have different needs from the urbanized states in this compact.

'central government to
'central government to coordinate such purchases' ...
Some of us are here to avoid just that.
Because...
Because you don't want to live in civilization?
Civilization
Have you seen where it's gotten us? we need Devo post haste
Huh?
Look, I wouldn’t mind if the federal (sorry, Adam, but we don’t have a “central”) government did the emergency supply purchasing, but having the states do it is not a sign of the end of our civilization.
Except...
...for that small matter where we pay FEDERAL taxes to provide for just such things, as well as other aspects of pandemic preparation. I sure didn't pay those taxes in order for Jared Kushner to grift and sell it all back to me at an obscene markup, did you?
Interesting
Will the states be giving back all that money they take from people's paychecks?
Is it true that they no longer teach how the government works in schools anymore? Because the underlying concept of the United States Constitution seems lost on many.
What are you talking about?
Where's the state pandemic fund, then?
9 Nations
A 1981 book envisioned nine nations of North America. One of them was “New England,” basically formed from the 6 states. We’d lose Fairfield County Connecticut to the Mid-Atlantic but pick up the Atlantic provinces of Canada. With the politics of the coronavirus as well as the politics of everything else, we seem to be heading closer to that all the time. I’d live there.
Holding out for a Province
Province of New England
I cite that all the time
We had Michigan and upstate NY too. The Apple was its own country, defined as "like Yankeedom, but materialistic."
