RIP, Fenway Mickey D
Cosmo was right, except they didn't wait 'til April.
The McDonald's on Boylston St in the Fenway closed unceremoniously and without notice early this week. I've been meaning to go over there to take a picture of the remains, which reportedly include the golden arches "sticking out of a dumpster in the parking (lot)." If anyone gets a chance, please post a snapshot in memoriam.
At least the Burger King fans/addicts in the neighborhood are happy...
ETA: Had to run earlier, no time to fill in the background, which is that the Red Sox have transferred ownership of the McDonald's plot to the Abbey Group, which developed the nearby Landmark Center a few years ago. It will indeed serve as a parking lot until the market improves and development becomes financially feasible. (As to Jimmy Fund contributions, I can't say.)
In return for the lot at Boylston and Jersey, the Abbey Group passed ownership of a similar-sized lot at Van Ness St and Yawkey Way to the Red Sox, again for future development.

Why do I get the feeling that whomever purchases the lot won't keep up the tradition of donating Red Sox parking revenues to the Ronald McDonald House?
Sooo tempting...
...were I still in my more agile college years and out for a night of "retrieving" items.
You can check out some photos I took here...I don't know how to embed photos on here.
When I was walking by, there was already a potential scavenger. The side door to the dumpster is open, if anyone is feeling like taking home a nice conversation piece for their living room.
Farewell brunch
Well, I don't know if you can really call it brunch, but we were there for the finale Sunday breakfast this past weekend. After we ate, we were leaving and saw a couple of guys loading stuff into the back of a U Haul. Yeah, I have those pics to post soon. All the old rowing photographs, oars and other "decor" was already stripped from the walls.
Right across the street from the old BLA...
I had many a happy memory of the Boylston St McDonalds when I was attending Boston Latin Academy from '84-'90. It was right across the street from WBCN and the Holiday Inn.
During half days when we were dismissed around 11 o'clock, kids would go over and buy their lunch and eat it on the bus. The BK was much better, but sadly this is a passing of the old guard.
Bye Bye Bye
I had the worst cup of coffee in my entire life from there years ago. RIP
Good bye and don't come back!
One less place to poison our bodies and cause our children to turn out to be obese, liberal arts bloggers.
Hopefully the BK will meet the same fate.
Thank you for the laugh!
You are such an adorable troll! You truly have made this morning a brighter time for all.
Naughty Zoot
Somebody left the PETA comment generator on all night again.
Oh yes!
The PETA comment generator and the Herald comment generator had a baby and they named it this guy!
I resemble that remark
And I can tell you where to stick your comma.
Thanks!
They let me pee there without using a token when i was pregnant. Thanks Mickey D's!!
Wow
Ah, the memories. They come flooding back. Decidedly a mixed bag.
