That's pollen. Happens every year. Makes a great visual tracker for runoff impacts on waterways.
That was my thought.

I took a walk from my house in the South End to the Esplanade last night between storms and noticed how much pollen had been knocked off the trees and out of the atmosphere and collected around the puddles. I think maple, honey locust, and linden trees are in bloom around this time of year, so that may very well be the source.

See Adam's comment below. Happens every year, but they're especially horny this time.

I saw the same thing out my window this morning. There is a storm drain in the alleyway/parking lot behind my building that overflows with the slightest rainfall, and the (guessing) 15 foot puddle was ringed with this yellowish substance. This afternoon the residue remains even though the water has mostly receded. I'm glad to know that it's not something more toxic.
Oh no

Why is it that plants get to have messy sex outside and we are all tasked with cleaning up after them??

Not sure how to embed Twitter posts, but BlueHill Observatory posted a pollen haboob coming in
front of yesterday's storms:

I'm totally amazed that I've gotten as far in life as I have when I haven't matured mentally much beyond a 14 year old.

I'm jealous of people who aren't as finely attuned to pollen as some of us are. (sniffle, sniffle, aaah-chooo!)
