Police union says it isn't boycotting anybody, but calls on its members to boycott somebody

The Boston Police Patrolmen's Association today called on its members to boycott a Lower Mills taco place whenever a particular bartender is on duty because of the way she tangled with cops while protesting white supremacists in Copley Square over the weekend. Only problem: She hasn't worked there since 2018.

In a tweet, the union said it objects to the woman's Instagram post about the Copley Square protest and counter-protest and said they should avoid Yellow Door Tacos, which also has an outlet in the South End and which is co-owned by Ken Casey of the Dropkick Murphys, at least when she is on duty:

In a statement, though, Yellow Door says:

The individual identified in the tweet has not been an employee of Yellow Door Taqueria since 2018. We have no further comment.

BPD detectives, who are trained to research people's backgrounds, have their own union and do not belong to the BPPA.

I hadn't previously heard of Yellow Door Taco, but the fact that I can be guaranteed to not encounter any police there makes me want to check it out.

That goofballs no good either nor are his "associates".

Just find a small shop and don't go to a place owned by corporate white dudes masking as rough-around-the-edges Local Heroes.

The only reason the BPPA apologized is because of who the owner was and that cops LOVE that whole phony irish bagpipe thing.

This woman should sue the $%&@ out of those retired goons for repeated harassment.

BPD already pepper sprayed, clubbed, and groped the woman - as she recounts in the screen shot the union shares - how much more retribution does a group of individuals getting paid 6 figures need on people who have seen their income streams collapse in the last 7 months? For squeezing a pig toy in their faces?

What weak, fragile little humans, the BPPA is. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to defund an organization with this high-level of professionalism.

And notice that their post doesn't refute anything she wrote, just states that they are boycotting her for writing it.

And how dumb do you have to be to screenshot an accusation against members for brutality and groping and then blast it out for the media and public to see? And then include a comment that is not a denial, but further harassment against an individual and her employer?

”We totally beat, pepper sprayed, and groped this woman, but let’s make sure she can’t pay rent!”

Maybe it's a diversion tactic before more news come out about the former BPPA president who was charged with pedophilia in August? BTW, whatever happened to that guy? Does the BPPA cares to tweet about that?

Why would the current BPPA President talk about a retired police president does that make sense come out of your parents basement and breath some clean air or better yet bathe And hopefully the next time one of you idiots needs 911 make sure to call a protester

Oh, I know, we need to let the justice system do its work.

Uh, okay there.

I suppose we can extend your line of questioning as to why the BPPA would talk about a citizen exercising their Constitutionally protected right of free speech. That doesn't make much sense, does it?

post by the police union is in such poor taste. who cares what you idiots think about anything?unfortunately social media makes them think someone gives a hoot. I suppose this day and age it is better to know what morons are up to/ thinking about, but that doesn't make it any less goddamn tiresome. if the police knew you were a liberal, they wouldn't answer your 911 call--big deal, tell us something we don't know cops.

I'm not a defund the police guy, but I would like them to be better muzzled until such time as they can be counted on to speak with "dignity and respect" about the people they serve.

When will various organizations start designating these brutality fraternities for certain public employees what they are: hate groups?

up

Isn't the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association the union that elected a pedophile as its president? Innocent, etc.

up
Voting closed 0

How remarkably petty. There is nothing particularly bad about the post the union screen shot. She refers to "racist cops" and claims she was pepper sprayed, hit with batons, and groped. It's easy to verify that at least the first two happened to some protesters and the union's post doesn't accuse her of making false statements, so what is the point of this?

They're going to publicly shame and boycott anyone who criticizes them? That only works when there is reason for someone to be shamed.

Patrolman Association friends, while we have you on the line... When you are done bullying city residents who make a fraction of your wage, could you please explain to us the rationale for the 27 BPD employees who made over $300K last year and the 531 officers who earned more than the Mayor’s $199k?

Please remember who pays you.

This is the sort of petty crap people are sick of no matter who is doing it.

The guy who owns this donut shop has a cop who is a father so we should not shop there. Yellow Dog has a bartender who says mean things about cops so we should not go there. So and so did what and what to someone other person in 1983 so we should not buy our peppermints at his shop.

This irks me as much as the people calling for Starbucks boycotts because one barissta said something rude to some cop in Iowa. If owners of companies are the target I am fine with it but seriously can we just stop it with this constant outing of regular every day people?

The owner of Patty's Pantry on Dot Ave was a Menino supporter. The police were in the middle of a contract negotiation and Menino wasn't giving them what they wanted. So they boycotted Patty's, formerly a hangout for cops. The place was sold a couple of years later and the a-holes extended the boycott to the new owner.

The screenshot they're using is from a 2018 episode of a public access/webcast show that ran in Milton called "Broad Appeal" which highlights women in their careers.

NO SHIT they're "getting off on any reaction". That's what bullies do. Sideline-sitting preachy people blather worthless platitudes at people who are the bullies' targets, but contrary to sideline-sitter opinions, they don't just go away if you ignore them. Oppressed communities understand that. Upstanders understand that. Bystanders...point and laugh, like it's all just there to amuse them.

I've heard long term police are getting sick of the hassles they are getting. Apparently they believe that like their cowardly lion in D.C. they are above the law. Now that the heat is on them to act as equals instead of legal thugs they are whining and quitting.

Courage is needed to deal with bad guys. But is a different courage is needed to be humble. Good police are humble; bad police are not.

up
Voting closed 0

and I suggest you guys call tomorrow when they open. The phone number is 617-635-4500.

This is the second time in recent weeks they've pulled this BS. They got a kid who worked at a hardware store in Allston fired a few weeks ago because they thought he oinked at them.

This is beyond the pale though. They used OUR tax dollars to investigate someone who was exercising her first amendment rights to dox and use targeted harassment against her and an innocent place of business because they THOUGHT she still worked there. Not only was this woman, beaten, maced and groped by these "public servants" but they since they couldn't arrest her for expressing her first amendment rights they decided they would find another way to "punish" her for using her voice.

Not only that but the goddamned Trumpers in this state are racist af and the cops siccing them on a woman of color and a Mexican restaurant opens up a whole NEW set of problems that the cops - who are supposed to STOP people from harassing strangers - are actively encouraging it.

This is absolutely despicable behavior and we should demand better of the people we entrust to be police in this city.

up
Voting closed 0

This is totally unprofessional. Police are taxpayer-funded public servants. The job is to enforce the law, not harass citizens for perfectly legal and constitutionally protected speech. If they can't be objective and impartial then they are in the wrong line of work. I'm fine with unions collectively bargaining for fair wages and work/life balance, but discipline and accountability should not be up for negotiation.

up
Voting closed 0

every minute the BPPA chucklefucks spend having slap-fights on Twitter is one minute they can't spend raping kids or beating protestors. And they handled this one so comically badly that they basically just gift-wrapped the lawsuit this poor woman is going to win against the city. They screwed it up so badly that even FISH isn't in here offering to carry their jockstraps. Hell, they screwed it up so badly that an enterprising DA could probably hit them with a RICO charge.

On the other hand, this poor woman has probably had her life destroyed in the short term. Businesses would fear reprisal from the cops for hiring her, and I'll bet you anything she's getting harassed by cops on the regular. Does she have a GoFundMe or something?

Of course I don’t know some anonymous police officer who, according to an anonymous internet commenter, allegedly had his face spit in...until all of a sudden the story changed to “it wasn’t *real* spitting, just saliva spewed from yelling”.

But O’Grady is wearing a mask in the photo. And cops are wearing masks in the photo. But we should just accept the convenient timing and story changing of this “alleged” (your word) incident happening to this totally-not-make-believe officer?

I mean if there is one thing that 2020 has taught us, it’s that cops never lie to justify/cover up their own bad behavior.
