Dorchester man admits he opened fire on police during the rioting and looting following the May 31 demonstration

John Boampong, 37, of Dorchester has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges related to the way he responded to police officers demanding he drive away from the Arlington Street area by shooting at them repeatedly early on June 1, the US Attorney's office reports.

Under a plea deal with federal prosecutors, Boampong agreed to a sentence of 42 to 63 months on charges of interfering with a law enforcement officer during the commission of a civil disorder, receipt of a firearm by a person under indictment for a felony offense, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees. The deal must also be approved by a judge at a hearing set for Feb. 4.

Boampong, who has been detained since his arrest on June 1, also faces separate state charges for what he did as Boston Police were trying to clear downtown and the Back Bay of post-demonstration looters.

Federal court documents say that Boampong at first drove at officers, one of whom struck his car with a baton, and left the area, around 2:30 a.m., but then came back:

BPD officers at the scene observed BOAMPONG's car return to the area. It traveled on Arlington Street, crossed over Boylston Street, and then turned onto Providence Street. BPD officers saw the brake lights activate on BOAMPONG's car after turning on Providence Street. Immediately thereafter, officers in the area heard a rapid succession of gunshots coming from the area of Providence Street near the location of BOAMPONG's parked car. Multiple officers took cover by bracing or ducking behind cars and others objects, believing that they were being shot at.

Boampong faced federal charges because one of the Boston officers had been deputized as a "federal law enforcement officer" to search for alleged antifa members that night.

I sincerely doubt that Rollins included discharging firearms at people on the list of crimes she will not automatically prosecute.
