The never ending war between people with dogs and people without dogs at South Boston's Medal of Honor Park continues to explode in the annals of Boston 311, where workers have now pulled the communal complaint car over and are snarling at the back seat that if you don't cut it out right now, 311 will come back there and bend you like Peter Bent Brigham so help you God. Or words to that effect.
After one 311 user demanded to know if the city is waiting until some Southie Cudjo kills or disfigures somebody before doing something about the dogs, another 311 user filed a complaint about that complaint, telling the first user to keep his "shitty little crotch goblins" out of the park as well, because if it's not a dog park, it's also not a playground.
311 has had quite enough:

Totally ridiculous that the south end has one but getting one built in other neighborhoods seems nearly impossible. The demand is there. Lots of people would be happy to donate to get them built. Hoping to see less foot-dragging on this as the Wu admin settles in.

They recently finished a total remodel of Garvey Park and put in one (well, two as there are adjacent fenced off sections for bigger & smaller dogs). Hopefully the trend will continue as they are upgrading other parks in the city
Boston absolutely needs more

Boston absolutely needs more parks.
Boston needs more dog parks like it needs more ATV parks, not at all. If you do not have the space to play with your personal property move to the suburbs.
Basketball courts?

What is the principled distinction between a dog park, a basketball court, a bocce court, a baseball diamond, or any other dedicated single-purpose recreational facility on public land?

Basketball and baseball diamonds are used by children and so they are the price we pay for civilization.
Having children is just as optional as having pets

Dog parks are for dogs in the same sense that basketball courts are for basketballs. Dog parks are a place for people to enjoy playing with their dogs.
Humans come before animals.

Humans come before animals. Especially in dense urban settings. Let your dogs run free in the wilds of unincorporated Maine if you want them to be unconstrained.
Silly.

For recreational as well as housing purposes.
Not everyone wants to or can live exactly like you.
Fortunately for the rest of Boston.

I'd just as soon not live next to any kind of motorsport park. Urban areas are noisy enough already. Maybe after they are all electric bikes ...

East First Street
By Suldog
Sat, 11/27/2021 - 8:25pm
Southie has one right on East First Street, next to the bus station between M Street and N Street, a one-block walk from Medal of Honor Park, but dog owners still have their dogs pissing and crapping on both the park and the nearby Christopher Lee Playground/Athletic Field. There are signs at Lee stating "No Dogs", by at least two of the entrances, but some dog owners are apparently illiterate and still bring their dogs onto the field rather than taking the short walk to the dog park.
Let your dog shit and piss on your Boston Interiors furniture.

Anyone who owns a dog and lives in an apartment without its own green space is guilty of animal cruelty.
On the contrary
By Bob Leponge
Sun, 11/28/2021 - 9:19pm
On the whole, a dog who lives in an apartment is likely to have more quality social time socializing with other dogs (at the dog park) and more mental stimulation (on walks with owner), than a dog in the suburban house with the "perfect for dogs" fenced-in half acre yard, who is shooed out the door twice a day for a potty break.
Ah, for the pre-internet days of South Boston
By Waquiot

The South Boston Tribune had a telephone service for people who were too lazy to write letters. You would call, and a select few would have their voice mails published, complete with grammatical errors.
This whole use of 311 to gripe about 311 complaints reminds me of that. I agree with the constituent service people- meta-311 tickets are an abuse of the system and should be grounds for being banned from posting that way (as oppose to calling 311 and presenting your gripe to a living person.)
It may surprise no one here...

But Christ on a cracker, some townie bitch was posting daily with complaints about a BLM supporter sign in the window of the library...
What did you expect to accomplish?
By Waquiot
Sat, 11/27/2021 - 4:20pm
There's no sense in complaining about a complaint.
That said, if you posted something thanking the library for posting a BLM sign in the window, that's another story. In this case, the dog crowd can post requests for more dog parks, and those who are raising those who will be taking care of the rest of us in old age can politely ask that the leash laws of the city be followed. These may dovetail, but they are different than complaining that someone has complained.
