At least three injured in trolley collision near Government Center
Two Green Line trolleys collided in the tunnel between Park Street and Government Center around 9:20 p.m.
Photos of the two trolleys and the aftermath.
Three, possibly four, people were taken to Mass. General with what the Boston Fire Department said were minor injuries.
The T began running a shuttle bus between North Station and Lechmere, urged riders to take the Orange Line for downtown stations. Blue Line trains bypassed Government Center, because of the crash command center the T set up for investigators on the Green Line platform.
The Federal Transit Administration already has its eye on the T because of a series of mishaps, including a crash last July on the B Line that injured 27 people.
At particular issue on the Green Line is the lack of an automated system to stop trains should one get too close to another. The T has begun testing a $170-million system on parts of the Green Line this year, with full operation slated for 2025.
And then there's this:
The green line was closed for the night after a collision. After walking to 3 separate stops a T station security guard told me he’d only help me get home if I gave him my number. Guess I’m spending $40 on an Uber.

Again?!!!
How does this keep happening?!!! Literally one track. If there’s someone in front of you, slowdown/brake.
Well
Happens because there is literally one track.
There are a lot of curves on the WB GC tracks, so if you are up to speed and not paying attention. Wasn't the last GC crash because a bozo was on his phone?
Their only job is to pay attention
There’s only one direction you need to focus on. Who are they hiring at the T? Cell phone have been banned so what was he/she doing?
New Recruits
This is what happens when you struggle to hire people to fill positions. You don't always get the best of the best. Plus when you pay not much more than retail these days, gonna be hard to fill those positions even more.
Plus the T's hiring process isn't like your normal one.. if you pass an exam, pass a physical and drug test, you pretty much have the job. They will train on the rest.
And considering some of the new bus drivers who think they are driving a Boston cab (and try to move like one).. I'm not surprised.
And as far as cell phones.. remember, you can have all the rules you want, but some people will always think the rules dont apply to them. You can't really fault the T for people's arrogance. Especially when its slim pickin's to fill positions. All the T can do is reparmand people.
Security Guard
Um I didn't know the T had security guards? Isn't that what Transit Police do.
I'm going to guess she means the "Customer Service" person at the station, which are not T employees. They are contractors.
I hope she called Customer Service and lodged a complaint regardless.
I'm shocked
That the security guard/transit police was hitting on Kendra during an emergency evacuation.
Photos of the collision and aftermath
Looks like one trolley merging into another.
E-Line train coming from
E-Line train coming from Haymarket toward Government Center struck empty B-line train coming out of the Government Center loop, right between first and second cars, as the front of that train was entering the station. Looks like train coming out of the loop got to the junction first, but that doesn't confirm which one had the proper signal (or if the signals failed and gave both a green light).
Government Center still closed
AS of 12 PM today, the entire of Government Center station is still closed.
