Gun-toting teen from Brockton and three other Brockton pals were joyriding through Dorchester on scooters, until they ran a stop sign, police say

Boston Police report arresting four Brockton teens, ages 14 through 18, on gun and drug charges in Codman Square Saturday afternoon, after officers on patrol watched them ignore a stop sign and decided to pull them over for citations, especially since none were wearing helmets, police say.

The four declined to stop. Although BPD policy is not to pursue scooter riders for fear they might cause a crash, the four turned into an alley on Whitfield Street from which there was no escape, so the police followed them in:

Officers exited their cruiser and located the all four suspects in a neighboring back yard along with the scooters that were on the ground next to a couple trash cans. The scooters had significant ignition damage.

After further investigation, officers located a loaded firearm in the trash can. The firearm was determined to be a Taurus G3C 9x19, with one round in the chamber, nine rounds of ammunition in the magazine and an obliterated serial number, five baggies of marijuana and one small plastic baggie believed to be crack cocaine.

Manuel Monteiro and Brian Price, both 18, and a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old too young to have their names released, were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, distribution of crack and trespassing, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Appreciate your getting the guns, drugs, and alleged felons off the streets. And maybe recovering someone’s stolen scooters.

People who are dangerous and break the law often also ignore the rules for driving. Many of those operating scooters and dirt bikes are even worse. There are more and more drive-by shootings in cities from scooters and they aren’t going away with keeping the status quo.

People who operate vehicles in such a way as to disregard the safety of others often have patterns of other similar behavior.

People who violate any traffic law while being perfectly safe and careful (i.e., everyone) don't need to be surveilled and harassed.

Enforcing traffic laws is important. Criminals also tend to break traffic laws and end up getting caught.

I also agree that nobody needs to be surveilled or harassed and didn’t suggest anything like that. If someone is being a jackass, they should get pulled over.

Cars kill many people. Safe driving matters.
