Live Boston reports a Jeep that just happened to be sitting atop a box of fireworks on Michigan Avenue near Columbia Road caught fire around 2:50 a.m. on July 4th. Neighbors rushed over with garden hoses to douse the car before firefighters arrived.

If the car was running and parked, why didn’t they drive away once they noticed? If the fireworks were going off first, why did they drive over them? So weird.

When I was living in dorchester years ago there was one night when I was driving home (in a jeep!) on a street off dot ave, and when I got near an intersection this guy ran out and blocked the street, and a couple seconds later fireworks started blasting off in the intersection behind him. The launcher looked like 9 soup cans in a square on a piece of wood. Don't know if it would have gone off under my car but if he hadn't run out to stop me I'm not sure I'd have seen it in the dark in time to stop.
Or if I had maybe it would have been right when it started launching. Seemed short enough not to get stuck under the car, maybe this one was

we lobbied Maine and New Hampshire to require proof of in-state residence to purchase fireworks?
And charged people with possession of dangerous explosives for having them in Massachusetts?
Like, this isn't like stealing or fighting or something that's understandable how people with poorer material and nonmaterial resources fall into. The fireworks bullshit requires massive premeditation and expendable income. If you decide to drive to another state to buy shit to burn down your neighborhood and blow off people's fingers, there should be consequences.
