Boston Restaurant Talk reports Garrett Harker plans to re-open his old Hotel Commonwealth dining haunt in a new building going up across the turnpike in the Fenway. Worcester Magazine reports he's looking at an opening (or is that a re-opening?) in June.
Dickie not smart. The Adam Carolla school of Covid 19 coping was proved false.
I sort of worked with Dicke's dad a long time ago, this is a genetic arrogance to authority and is not surprising.
Eastern Standard reopening restores some order to the galaxy. Glad to see some real estate investors have decided that putting a local in over Guy's Jumbalaya Idiot Sandwich Pizza Kitchen Taqueria and Video Game Palace is a good idea.
Wasn't this announced a while ago? The building is one of the two in the old Fenway exposed parking lots next to the Lansdowne stop (Beacon St) unless something changed. There is a patio between the buildings that would work for outdoor dining if I'm thinking of the correct spot.
I'm greatly looking forward to it. One of the great things about ES was their prices were reasonable given the high quality service. Hopefully that returns.
It was announced that Garret Harker was going to be opening 4 restaurants over there, and while it was probably reasonable to guess that ES was one of them, this is the first public annoucnement iirc.
but the loss of ESK&D left a big hole in the scene, to say nothing of Island Creek Oyster Bar and The Hawthorne, both of which I also adored.
Not many places do such a good job serving such a spectrum of customers: food geeks, cocktail nerds, Fenway-bound fans, hotel guests, making them all feel well cared for. It was also a huge destination for restaurant industry folks, a reflection on its terrific hospitality ethos as much as anything else, no small thing. Grateful they're coming back.
It was white tablecloth where everyone was welcome. Rich bank executive or stoner college kid, both got good service and a good meal. You could bring a date or conduct a job interview and not feel out of place. Pretty rare in that regard.
I sure hope he's able to recreate that atmosphere in the new location.

Dickie sided with the anti-vaxers.

I hope they bring back Mr. Fingas behind the bar. Guy really knew how I liked my spirits stirred.

I never went when I lived there. I'd like to make good on that on a visit.
