The MBTA reports it will shut down the entire B Line between July 17 and 28 for repairs on top of the repairs it performed for 12 days last summer.
During this 12-day full-access closure, crews will fully replace over 2,000 feet of B Branch track as well as duct banks and underground conduits. Crews will also repaint pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, and platform edges along the B Branch.
Buses will replace trolleys between BC and Kenmore Square, the T says.
The T is planning an open house to discuss the shutdown at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 at BU's Sleeper Auditorium, 871 Commonwealth Ave. The T says it's looking for your "thoughts, comments, and concerns."

Holding an open house is a positive move, as long as the T arrives planning to be honest and forthcoming. If it's one thing the MBTA needs more than anything (except, yknow, stable funding, more drivers, better trains, etc...) it's better transparency about wtf is going on.
Imagine if Amtrak shut down for a few weeks every summer.

Amtrak has been shutting one of the NYC Hudson Tunnels every weekend since 2012 with no end in sight. It results in horrendous weekend service for the entire NEC because the single track means there is a max of 6 trains an hour that can run between NYC and NJ.
And no notice to passengers

So that explains why my train home from NYC last month was an hour late. All the departure board said was "delayed" - no time estimate or reason given (including when I tried asking actual workers).

Yup, if your train misses the slot, it needs to wait 30 minutes for the tunnels to clear

But I did go through there the Sunday of the Taylor Swift show. And it was a nightmare, spent almost an hour and a half just to get through Terminal B for pickup.
Tunnels, not so much. Experiences might vary.
You didn’t cut through traffic on your bike?

Hilariously, there was a gentlemen leaving the terminal on his bike!

That's for MNR updates, but adds an additional constraint on service.
Will be interesting to see how the T does Green Line Transformation in a couple of years. The "best" way to do this would be to build a new alignment and then shift the tracks over. I'm sure they'll manage to screw it up and make it cost more and take longer, probably because parking, or something.
