![Truck nearly slams into overpass on Huntington Avenue outbound at Mass. Ave.](https://universalhub.com/files/styles/main_image_-_bigger/public/images/2023/huntstorrowing.jpg)
Like football, storrowing is a game of inches. Magic was on hand to see the proof of that this morning on Huntington Avenue outbound at Mass. Ave., where a trucker found himself in quite a pickle - he couldn't go forward because it looked for sure like he'd rip the roof off his truck. And he couldn't go backwards because, well, this is Boston and the traffic had piled up behind him.
Or so it seemed. And then, she continued, the hero nobody asked for, but the hero the times demanded emerged - a driver in a van heading inbound:
when I got there, it looked like they were trying to back up, but the line of cars behind them either didn’t realize or didn’t care. so they were trying different angles. Eventually, the van in the oncoming lane stopped at the lowest point and its driver got out and was able to guide them through.

"Hey, Boston drivers! There's a truck that's just missed storrowing and is trying to back up! What do you do?"

The true Bostonian response.

Did you not note the counter-narrative that is right there in plain sight? The Boston driver who parked on the other side of Storrow Drive, got out, and guided the truck out of trouble? That deserves some respect.
It's not Storrow Drive

And I'll bet everyone else was honking at _both_ of them.
Signage check

Eastbound: Well, technically there is a 13'0 clearance sign, but it's at the last minute, and it's not clear that it refers to the underpass rather than the right fork which stays on the surface to Mass Ave. Also the right fork has been closed for almost a year due to construction so everyone is diverted into the underpass. https://goo.gl/maps/vZ3F5jz65eornTWn9
And technically there is a sign back at the Gainsborough light: https://goo.gl/maps/dtfJta7Ag5hdDjwX7 But again, it's not clear that it refers only to the underpass, or that the surface route which truckers might have used in the past is now closed. And what are you supposed to do at that point? Turning either way on Gainsborough is a bad idea for a large truck.
Westbound: Nope. https://goo.gl/maps/8sH8UR4y2vizS6au9 And nothing in advance either. https://goo.gl/maps/ZRogqWrW9uNBDo8RA

I know, maybe we could put tons of signs around that say "NO TRUCKS."
Oh wait, we already have.

There might be a big screw-up w/ the detour as the upper side of Huntington is blocked for construction. it's been a total mess down there for the month
