The little things

There are plenty of big things to see on a walk on the path along the Charles River at Millennium Park in West Roxbury: Big trees, big sky and a wide river (now that rainfall is back to normal). But look carefully and there are all sorts of interesting little things to see as well.

Near the berries, a common whitetail dragonfly takes a breather:

And near the resting dragonfly, just a few feet upstream from where Sawmill Brook enters the river, newly hatched fish congregate in a micro-bay, maybe two feet across:

On the paved path from the end of the dirt trail back to the parking lot, a flower blooms:

To get to the path: Head towards the canoe launch from the lower parking lot. Just past the path to the canoe launch is another unpaved path on the left. Follow it along the Charles and Sawmill Brook. It'll bring you back to the main paved path; you can turn left and keep following the brook or right back to the parking lot.
