Boston Police reported 37 murders in 2023, down from 40 in 2022, although that's of little comfort to the family and friends of the people who died.
Here are the ones that we know about. Click on a victim's name or photo for any updates in their cases.

Thank you for your reporting. In 1990, the year Charles Stuart jumped to his death there were 143 homicides in Boston (almost 4x 2023). Yet the cops interviewed for the Globe project insist that Boston is a "hellhole" today.

Police officers lied? Surely you jest.
Amazingly low murder rate

Is it partially because of much better emergency EMT ER techniques vs 25, 30+ years ago? Boston is similar in size to D.C. and their murder rate is going through the roof. Baltimore even worse

Had 274 murders in 2023, its highest number since 1997, in contrast to Boston, which has been seeing a slow decline in recent years.
I'd suspect it's a combination of factors, including, yes, first-rate hospital trauma services, but I'd think Washington has some good ERs as well.

Totaling zero (combined) in Southie, Charlestown, the Back Bay and Brighton. Perhaps we should be focusing on what those neighborhoods are doing right.
Is it something those neighborhood residents fully control

Interesting question - can lower income neighborhoods duplicate what higher income neighborhoods are doing to keep their residents safer?
Possibly if every kid in Boston had access to good education , every adult could get a job that supported them and their family as well as anyone with mental health issues could get the help that they deserve.....quickly
Maybe someday!
Also as all Boston neighborhoods continue to gentrify the murder rate will continue to drop.....and one white person died from murder, that number can't get much lower in a tale of two cities ?
Easy

They have cute old buildings for which vapid people relentlessly outbid each other for ownership and/or habitation.

I admire the apartments of Comm Ave, to say nothing of Lake St. properties.

Good question

I suspect (but don't know for a fact) the BPD numbers include motor-vehicle homicides, which are investigated by the homicide unit, in which case we have at least two hit-and-runs: A four-year-old run down on Wood Avenue in Hyde Park and a man run down near the Encore casino.
Not that

MV homicides do not count in UCR data unless someone was intentionally using their car as a weapon. It is either that some were not publicly announced or were ruled later. In some cases you can have someone shot in a previous year die from their wounds in the current year in which case they are counted in the year they die. They do have an open incident data table but it appears to be behind so that will not help.
An answer for two of those cases

I remember When I was young I believe that would die in the streets of Boston in the 1990’s when there were 80, 90 even over 100 murders for a time here. But as I got older I watch the murder rate decline and feel bad for these souls lost in less than 40 killings.
