A little preaching to the choir around Boston Common

Guy in pickup pulling trailer illustrating how horrible Donald Trump is

A roving UHub photographer spotted this guy slowly driving around the Common this morning, reports the guy has been circling Beacon Hill for a couple months now.

drive around in red areas. Even here in Boston, West Roxbury is a good place to drive around with that message.
For the same reason that Trump would never campaign here, he knows it's pointless, it's pointless to drive around downtown Boston with that message.

Laconia bike week is coming up, will give this guy his props if he's brave enough to head down Weirs Beach with that get up

It's a certainty that the electoral votes from Mass. will go to him in November. He'll campaign in NH and he'll fundraise here.

Driving around in WR with that message won't change any minds, but it might lead to some interesting confrontations.

I remember someone from Obama's first campaign joking that they "Go to Massachusetts for money and New Hampshire for votes."

New Hampshire is a suburb of Boston, so Boston TV and radio get the advertising, although I haven't seen NH listed on the expected swing states for the 2024 general election. Boston is dwarfed by Dearborn in terms of electoral power.

Trump didn't win a single West Roxbury precinct. Or any other precinct in the city.

Closest was Dot 16-12, the Florian Hall precinct, which went 50-47 Biden.

Honestly did not believe that but fact checked both 2016 and 2020 and this is true. Love to see it. Here's 2020 from the state website:

Nope, can actually think for myself and voted against Trump the last two cycles, thanks. Hoping it won't need to be three times in a row, but not counting on it.

I was talking about my desire to immaturely express my contempt for Trump and Trump supporters.

I'm curious: at this late date, what do you think would prevent it from being three times in a row?

At this point? Not much.

One such scenario would be a conviction in the NY hush money case - not by itself - with the prospect of sentencing (probably can't happen soon enough to make a difference) and enough ill wind blowing from other corners (SCOTUS making a sane decision on immunity, or Cannon doing something so blatant that Smith does file for her removal, or one of the other stalled cases coming back to life, or the 'unindicted' cases like Arizona with the prospect of bringing Trump into further negative attention, or the prospect of Trump doing something self-destructive, or any combination of those) that enough senior Republicans get cold feet before the convention and get enough collective backbone to tell Trump to withdraw or flip the convention (yeah, I know, fat chance). To make that even remotely possible they'd have to placate the MAGA base by putting in someone almost as bad.

I was about to add to, suggesting a possible scenario for Party push against him if it looked like they would lose ground in both the Senate and House if they remained associated with him...
...and I see headlines popping up that Haley just endorsed Palpatine for Chancellor. Yeah, I know:
- not a surprise, not since that first debate when she hedged about supporting Trump. Christie and one other (I think) were the only ones who took any sort of firm line that day.
- it's an unfair insult to Palpatine. He was a much more subtle and talented schemer.

I agree that party pushback would make all the sense in the world, because Trump's presence at the top of the ticket is absolutely going to cost them down ballot. It won't happen, though. The Republicans are a party in name only, and a collection of cynical backstabbing frauds in reality. They have a number of fellow-traveling ideological strains, but their real god is self-interest, and by now even their most devoted ideologues are incapable of sacrificing the least advantage (real or imaginary) for any reason. So, while there may be any number of Republican politicians who are both nominally sane and not under threat of indictment for crimes ranging from election interference to statutory rape, they're being very quiet about it. Does Mitch McConnell know what's likely to happen to Congress in November? Hell yeah, but he's mailing it in at this point. And they've hollowed out the party. Right now the Republican Congress consists of fossils like McConnell who have done their damage and are all getting out, and young fanatics, each of whom wants to be the next Martin Bohrmann to Trump's Hitler. Romney, Flake, Toomey, Boehner, Ryan, all made a few feeble and ineffective bleats of "Somebody really should do something about" (at most), then took the cash and exited stage right.

But I'll save it for the BIDEN STOLE ELECTION guy with the police whistle who makes a regular appearance at Mystic Valley Parkway and Winthrop in Medford.

Hopefully it will age well inside a ziploc on my bike rack during the journey.

Exactly, Trump wouldn't carry Boston if he was the only one on the ballot.

Instead of causing air and noise pollution around America's oldest park, perhaps this person should use their time and the money they blow on gas and use it on a proper charity.

thank God for it, because if asshole idiots like the Trump cult had any power here it would be a far worse place, since only the lowest immoral scumbag white nationalist fuckheads become Trump supporters.

You just told everyone how much you don't know about the Federal government.

We may be a "donor" state, but there are programs at the Fed level that we do get money for.

Also note that Trump's "tax rebate" for the super wealthy came at a cost to us donor states with high housing costs.

Not even getting into how Trump stole our COVID supplies at the dock or "punished" states by restricting vaccines supply to all but his pet states.

How soon they forget the covert ops that Baker and other MA politicians had to resort to to get what PPE they could get, as well as who did get the PPE.

ETA: there was also this incident.
