Two-car crash injures three on Washington Street in Roslindale
By adamg on Sun, 11/17/2024 - 12:23am
Two cars crashed at Washington Street and Archdale Road in Roslindale around 7:50 p.m.
Three people were injured; two seriously enough to be transported by Boston EMS to an emergency room for care.
The crash comes a couple week after another crash at Washington and Wellesmere Road that flipped one vehicle and sent the second into a tree.

It's an intersection with a
It's an intersection with a complicated geometry and disorienting traffic signals. I'm surprised there is not a crash or a flip there every day.
Are there any photos from the scene?
How so?
Looks to me like a simple four-way perpendicular intersection of a major street and a minor one. Maybe you're thinking of some other place in Roslindale?
Don't underestimate these
Don't underestimate these drivers.
There is no complicated
There is no complicated geometry here. I pass this intersection daily. People drive 40mph on Washington. Also right on red gets treated like a g*d given right rather than a privilege that should only be exercised with caution.
Don’t overestimate these
Don’t overestimate these trolls.
Something tells me
You’ve never been there.
It’s a right angle intersection. Even before the car hating crowd started in, a 30mph speed limit on the main road along with the more trafficked part of secondary street being one way makes it a simple intersection. In a perfect world, a turning lane from Washington heading to Forest Hills to Archdale heading to the Arboretum would be nice, but we are talking fender bender problems, not injury crash problems.
It’s not a perfect world.
“ Three people were injured; two seriously enough to be transported by Boston EMS to an emergency room for care. “
And it’s not a difficult intersection
Which was my point.
Fatal crashes occur on straight roads in dry conditions. There is typically driver error of some part involved, as probably was in this case.
It was a difficult intersection whether by design or ...
… or not.
And it seems to be considered so by many people commenting.
I think they are being realistic about it.
My counter
Most commenters agree that it is not a difficult intersection. One commenter thinks that a 90 degree turn is a 270 degree turn. There are right angle intersections all over the place. If one cannot handle one of those, they should not be driving.
I can agree that regardless of infrastructure…
… there are many drivers out there who should just not be behind a wheel.
"The car hating crowd"
Assuming by this you mean anyone who would like to address the number of people killed by motor vehicles on this street every year? If so, count me as one of the crowd.
There is nothing complicated
There is nothing complicated about this intersection.
It is a busy intersection, and a lot of cars make a turn from Washington Street there, which frustrates the drivers going straight through. It is not uncommon to see a lot of cars cut into the bus lane to speed around the cars waiting to turn.
It has that 270 degree turn.
It has that 270 degree turn.
In my country...
In my country, we call that "making a left turn".
Sketchy driving there
I bike the Arboretum and South Street to avoid that stretch of Washington since the time someone tried to wreck me with a right-hook there. I heard them accelerating behind me and their tires screeched due to the speed when they swerved into me.
I used to live nearby
That's the intersection where the driver plowed into the porch and killed somebody. There was another bad crash there that didn't make the news, but I heard from my neighbors that it was horrific.
