Passenger in car stopped for speeding through Dorchester had gun loaded with 30 bullets, police say

Boston Police report arresting an 18-year-old Dorchester man on gun charges after he and other people were asked to step out of the car by officers who had watched it speed up Quincy Street early this morning.

According to police, officers on patrol on Quincy Street at Bowdoin Street saw a car zoom past them, headed towards Columbia Road, around 1:20 a.m. Although the driver stopped for a red light, when the light turned green, he "accelerated quickly," police say, and the officers turned on their lights and sirens and stopped the driver at Quincy and Magnolia streets.

Officers made contact with the occupants and observed that the front passenger to have his right arm pinned to his body, and continuously checking his waistband. Officers also observed the rear passenger to not be wearing his seat belt. Officers requested identifications from all the occupants, but the rear passenger was unable to provide one.

After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the front passenger and recovered a firearm from his waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 19 with one round in the chamber, and twenty-nine rounds in an extended magazine that was capable of holding thirty-one rounds.

The front passenger, Jociel De Los Santos-Santana, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say.
