A large police presence at Wyman and Centre Sts. Wyman blocked off. Police looking for ballistics on the street. The street lights in the area are also off -- most likely not related, but I'm sure it makes the work harder.

This particular part of JP (at a street by street level of detail) has been pretty safe for a number of years. The markets here are very welcoming. Sad to hear.

Depends on what you mean by safe. While there aren't usually shootings, I've been harassed enough by groups of young men while walking to and from the T that I no longer walk there if I can avoid it. While there's obviously a big difference between violent and non-violent crime, it's not exactly welcoming on the street.

My husband was just allowed into the market (cigarettes, bad habit). Apparently it happened up the street a bit, not in the market itself, but the BPD shut everything down. One officer came in asking for video feeds.

I've updated the post as well.

Word is that it was the kids who hang out in the neighborhood. One got ticked at another and yay! Gun was the solution.

very much prevalent, it just depends on the neighborhood and culture.

My father asked the same question. My response to him was fist fights take work.

Guns and high emotions are not a good mix.

Too many guns
bullets flying

Shots fired
dying and crying

So many afraid to walk the streets
prisoners in their own homes

Too many guns
in the wrong hands

Neighborhoods turned into
battle lands

What do we do?
What do we say?

Where is hope for
just one day?

Just one day
without bad news

Just one day
with no one dying

Just one day
with no one crying
over a body
lifeless and still

Death by gunfire
such a bitter pill

Too many guns..

Cause without them the responsible parties would really magically become nice people not instead be stabbing and slashing each other in the face over every precieved or trivial slight.

Is that stabbing and slashing is less likely to have collateral damage?

Let the commenter rant as they want to. It's one way to process the stupidity in and around the use of guns in the type of argument that reportedly occurred here. The commenter chose to share their hurt and upset through verse. Let it be.

By obsessing on guns, you free yourself from the responsibility of dealing with the people using the guns.

Just wondering, why did you change the headline from JP to Hyde Square?

Because "Hyde Square" is actually helpful, whereas "JP" is really a large area and quite vague.

Being a denizen of a far-off land, I wasn't sure where the line between Hyde Square and Jackson Square is, but then I heard from a couple of folks who said it was Hyde Square, so went with that.

I often try to do that because "JP" or "Dorchester" really doesn't say much about where an incident was, but will default to the broader neighborhood when there is no specific smaller area or I'm not sure which smaller area name would apply (and even then, yes, I sometimes am wrong).

I grew up all my Life in Jp and My family I've seen it all in Jp
Actually I was the one that bought Hector morales (rip)
his last bottle of gin when at night cops shot him all up and killed
Him.violence ha,well From the X-men to Dfg and Paleta
I have seen all, so sad Jp has never change and I dont think it will.
Now a Minister and way far away from Jp, and looking at all this
bad news and especially on Wyman where I use to live back in
1979 when hit by the huge blizzard in 79,realize that boston is
just getting worse again.we need the community to come together
and look out for each other ..
