That is very sad, my thoughts
That is very sad, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family
That is so heartbreaking. I
That is so heartbreaking. I'm so sad. What a horrible shame.
Question? Boston has had 10
Question? Boston has had 10 murders so far judging by your count but Bpdnews says 7(now 8) why does it seem like Boston always under reports there homicides?
One reason
If a homicide or crime occurs on the MBTA, Massport or parks and roads under MSP jurisdiction BPD will not carry the stat.
BPD is usually good at murder numbers
So I don't know where the lower number comes from.
They don't show Jassy Correia in the A1 stats, do maybe that's because it's a federal case or because it didn't happen in Boston, but that still leaves three others.
Eh
By the year's end the numbers seem to line up. I think the bigger issue is the lack of reporting of shots fired calls. Murders and shootings can be down, but if you listen to scanner any given day you will hear calls for shots fired with ballistics recovered. Gunshots, even when they miss, are violent crime and impact quality of life for many neighborhoods in boston.
Disgrace
This is an absolute disgrace. Enough is enough. Save the gun control arguments, we have enough gun laws in this state. The state of Massachusetts needs to get SERIOUS about the penalties for illegal gun possession. Want to change things here? Impose a 10 year mandatory for possession of an illegal firearm, period. Until we make illegal possession require serious time, you will have scumbags carrying firearms and doing stupid shit like this. Responsibke gun owner would back a plan like this because legal gun owners are not out commiting these crimes. And the beat goes on.
I feel horrible for the family of this elderly victim.
Sad.
More time doesn’t work. Close gun loopholes
That allow for easy street selling, buying and gifting. Take away . National gun registry and close the gun show loophole that allows UNREGISTERED guns to be sold to UNLICENSED people. This idiot would not have been sold this gun because the original buyer could not sell it.
flat out wrong - more time does work
flat out wrong - more time does work - and guess what, it keeps shithead scumbags off the streets - thereby preventing them from using illegal guns again.
I am a gun owner and I abide by the laws - I am for more uniform national gun laws. I understand the need for strong control and I have taken the lengthy steps (time, money, interviews, qualifications, etc.) to do things required by law.
the illegal gun used by the scumbag drug dealer in the back bay last night was stolen from the residence of a legal gun owner in NH. Stronger gun laws would not prevent that. But make it know on the streets of Boston that if you are in possession of an illegal firearm, you are going away for 10 years MANDATORY, things would change real quick.
Yes, have strict gun laws, but also make the penalty for illegal possession so severe that it will accomplish two things (deter most scumbags from carrying, and take the rest of the gun-toting scumbags off our streets for a long time).
Until we do that, all of the "thoughts and prayers" won't solve shit. empty talk.
What is the downside
Can you read?
If so, can you explain how any of what you wrote would prevent a house from being robbed, and a stolen gun from being sold? Do you think burglars will start avoiding houses that are listed in the national gun registry, and stolen goods fences will only sell stolen guns after running a full background check and ensuring buyer has a valid license?
And more time absolutely does work - you can’t shoot anyone if you’re locked up, and all your buddies will think long and hard before picking up that “chrome” after seeing your gun-toting ass getting locked up for ten years knowing same fate awaits them. A year max if they get really unlucky and get one of those 1-in-100 asshole judges who are forgetting they’re in MA isn’t much of a deterrent, guaranteed ten years every single time definitely is.
yes to all of this...
keep the gun laws - but drop the HAMMER on those that break them.
Thank you City of Boston Streetworkers
I would like the first extend my incredible deepest sympathies to the family friends and community of this precious love one. My heart in my prayers are with you. To the other remaining survivors of this violence is equally pray for your quick and full recovery.
I would like to thank the city of Boston street workers for your presence after this most tragic incident.
I witnessed you and others attempting to support and comfort this family and community during this unwarranted unprovoked careless act of violence.
Good job Lisa.
We need more surveillance
We need more surveillance installed in the streets to help in identifying shooters. Warmer weather coming will guarantee the increase of gun violence in Mattapan, Dorchester and Roxbury. Please let's have safer neighborhoods.
Murder
Drive by shootings aren’t accidents, surely someone knows who did it. I hope there is cooperation with the police to find the murderer.
These drive-by shooters don't care who they gun down.
Often enough, innocent people get gunned down as well, which is grossly unfortunate.
Murder is horrible enough, but
when an innocent bystander pays for it with his/her life, it's even more horrifying.
I heard those shots
I was playing Basketball (HORSE) in Norfolk Park when out of nowhere two separate bursts of gunfire started. Everyone stopped and looked towards the intersection of Norfolk and Blue Hill Avenue. Less than 3 minutes later sirens were blaring. That's damn good response time for the BPD. I'm pretty sure we have shot detectors installed in our area.
