Man was sauntering across Humboldt Avenue with a loaded gun, police say
Boston Police report arresting a man they say was walking around Humboldt Avenue and Townsend Street in Roxbury with a loaded gun in his waistband Thursday evening.
Police say gang-unit officers were on a random patrol in the area around 7:50 p.m. when they spotted a guy crossing Humboldt Avenue displaying what the officers knew were signs he could be packing a gun. Police did not specify just what he was doing that looked gun-ish, but some of the more common signs include grasping the waistband - since people with illegal guns often do not splurge on holsters - frequent pants adjustment and an unusual gait (see Behavioral Indicators of Legal and Illegal Gun Carrying).
While watching the male party, later identified as Ricardo Watson, Officers observed Watson cross the street and continue to display multiple characteristics of a person carrying a firearm.
Officers stopped Watson and began an investigation which led to the recovery of a firearm located on Watson near his waist.
The firearm recovered was a Smith and Wesson SD40, which had a large capacity feeding device (magazine) inserted into it. The magazine had thirteen (13) rounds of live ammunition, and the firearm had one (1) live ammunition round in the chamber.
Watson, 21, of Roxbury, was charged with illegal gun possession, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device, police say.
Innocent, etc.
