Natick Town Meeting member feels persecuted by vote condemning failed coup; yes, she's the Town Meeting member charged with participating in it
By adamg on Wed, 04/14/2021 - 11:16pm
The MetroWest Daily News reports the town's elected Town Meeting voted 113-20 to condemn what turned into a failed but deadly putsch in Washington on Jan. 6. Member Sue Ianni cast one of the 20 no votes. She faces a May 28 hearing before a federal magistrate in Washington, DC for the way she mosied around inside the Capitol with a raised fist during the attempt to overturn the election results then.

Wow, she sounds like a nut.
Wow, she sounds like a nut.
Sometimes... at the polls
Yes, yes.
Sometimes you feel like a nut.
Also, I seem to have misplaced my tiny violin in this mess of a room.
"free speech, but only for us"
Typical: she calls an attempted coup, including assaults on cops and members of Congress, and a threat to lynch the vice president for doing his job, exercising "first amendment rights," but she's upset when other members of the town meeting call that "terrorism."
1) I too condemn the insane
1) I too condemn the insane rioters at the Capitol
2) using town meeting time to condemn the insane rioters at the Capitol sounds like an awful way to spend a weeknight.
Why's that?
You have one who is being tried for it in your midst. What, you're going to play no-see-um like you're in Stepford and you want to avoid all unpleasantness or something? Fuck nope.
Staying home is always an option
Staying home is always an option if you don't want to spend your weeknight like that. Personally, I see value in letting the fascists among us know that we see them for who they are.
Sociopaths
Sociopaths often have no idea that what thy have done is wrong. This TMM seems to be such a person. The more members of society and its institutions point out the wrongness of their acts, the less likely they are to repeat them. She has apparently taken this opportunity to learn to be a better person and turned it into a demonstration of how she isn't one.
"We too are members of
It'll be nice when local governments stop passing cringey resolutions about non-local issues. Hopefully this is the last one for a few years.
I'm sorry...
...that officially and publicly oppossing a violent and deadly insurrection after being on the verge of a Christo-Fascist takeover of our country is "cringe".
Go make a Tik Tok.
TikTokking Gen Z voted (the
TikTokking Gen Z voted (the ones old enough to vote) blue, my dude, and they LOVE ineffective call outs. I think you're looking at Gen X's brand of SouthParkian "the worst thing to do is care about an issue" cringe.
It'll also be nice
It'll also be nice when you stop posting disingenuous comments like this in the mistaken belief that everyone on Uhub will not immediately identify the stench of a quisling.
Is it so wrong to expect
Is it so wrong to expect local government activity to be focused on issues like paving the roads and funding the schools?
Is it so wrong to expect
Is it so wrong to expect some intellectual honesty from you? Yeah, probably.
You've clearly never been to a town meeting in your life, so maybe stop opining about how time is best spent at these shindigs.
Are you a constituent in this
Are you a constituent in this specific context?
Disingenuous questions
Always remind me of Fat Tony from "The Simpsons."
Is it wrong to steal bread to feed your starving family?
What if your family doesn't like bread?
What if they like... cigarettes??
dog shut the hell up
the councilor was at the insurrection. *you* are pretending that national issues somehow don’t affect local ones.
Small correction
She's an elected Town Meeting member, Natick doesn't have a town council.
And she's one of just 180 elected Town Meeting members (Natick, like other towns of its size and larger, went to elected town meetings because the traditional open town meetings just became too unwieldy).
It's been interesting to see media outlets in other parts of the country (looking at you, Washington Post) refer to her as some sort of important town official, when, in fact, she's just one of 18 people elected to town meeting from her precinct.
thanks
my mistake.
it still seems to me like it was worth addressing her presence at the insurrection.
Are they ignoring those
Are they ignoring those issues, or is your objection that they're also condemning sedition rather than going home and watching TV?
It'd also be nice
It'd also be nice if you could keep yourself from defending fascists and racists, just once, but I ain't holding my breath.
Keep laughing everyone...
...and next time they won't fail.
There are traitors in our midst and they need to be stopped. Immediately. Swiftly. And if the cops won't do it (lol just kidding) we're gonna find ourselves with an actual Punisher who will.
And believe it or not, the actual Punisher (not the dumb MAGAt sticker skull, but the character it's based on) is no friend to Nazi MAGAt Cop Thugs and their Reichsbräuteschule Hausefrau.
What did I miss?
Who was laughing?
"I committed insurrection, but I'm the real victim
here."
Adorable! Fuck your feelings, seditionist.
yup
Be glad you are free, lady.
Cuz we all know if this was a bunch of black or brown folks, they'd all be sitting in a jail and not walking free.
And yeah its the truth.. It burns me up that these people did the one thing that is very clear attack on our constitution which is an attempt to overthrow the government by force. AND killing & harming capital police and politicians.
Yet they get to go to Mexico, or stay on City Councils.. or whatever. Just sets the tone that "yeah if you're white and you make an attempt to overthrow the government, you'll be able to still walk freely. So try, try again until you succeed"
These people need to be an example of how strong our government is.. but alas...they aren't so here we are.
/gets off caffeinated soap box
For now
For now.
let me guess: the other 19
let me guess: the other 19 people who voted against the measure are also people who decried changing their sports mascot from "redman" to "red hawks"?
The other 19 were on the same bus to DC
Just a guess, but a good one
Still waiting on charges for the corrupt rich politician
Who initiated, instigated, ordered, and led the deadly insurrection. Lol the American "justice system" lolol idiocracy (insert clip of daffy duck going woohoo woohoo woohoo hoo hoo hoo....)
So... are they condemning the
So... are they condemning the attempted coup, or just the failed coup?
It's prosecution, sweetie, not persecution
And you were participating in an attempted coup. It's possible you're too stupid to realize this (which is, of course, exactly what Trump was counting on), but it is for the courts to sort out how much of a mitigating item that may be. Have the spine to admit this and don't try to cloak yourself in false conservatism.
Those other examples? They weren't trying to over-throw the government.
