City that built public market nearly two centuries ago could finally get another one

The Globe reports Gov. Patrick has pledged $10 million for a year-round public market off the Greenway near the existing Haymarket - and not far from from Quincy Market, originally built as a public market.

It's proposed by the Boston Public Market Association.

Am I the only one who thinks they should kick the gross mall food court out of Quincy Market and put back what ought to be there? Put the idiotic food stalls out in the middle of that wind-swept park instead.

with tourists, locals, and nearby office workers. And unlike what you find in most malls, these food stalls are locally-owned businesses, not national chains.

Because, man, the tourists are all so SLOW (I know, I know, I'm probably just like that at Pier 39 in San Francisco).

It is about time, and if it is anything like the Ferry Building in SF, the city will be better for it. It will be interesting to watch the interaction between the shoppers (and vendors) at the haymarket and this new market. It's going to be a real urban experience.

I think it's a great idea too. Boston really nees this. The one in Philadelphia in the old train station is really fun and vibrant. I just wish they would put it back in Quincy Market where it belongs. How ever you look at it that place is just a glorified food court. I had never noticed that they weren't chains--they are such good imitaions that it is hard to tell.
