Park group looks to repaint Charlesgate murals defaced by tagger

The Esplanade Association reports that sometime late last night or earlier this morning somebody spray painted over " Patterned Behavior," a series of three murals painted last year by Silvia Lopez Chavez on three supports and a wall under the Bowker Overpass.
Association Executive Director Michael Nichols says the group has started looking at the cost of re-doing the murals and is talking to Lopez Chavez.
The group has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the restoration.
Anybody with information about the vandal should contact State Police.

Not really though. There's rules to graffiti. You don't typically go over someone's mural like this. Maybe they didn't get what it is.
So this isn't reflective of the graffiti world in general.

The stuff they allegedly vandalized look like graffiti as well so likely just bad luck they tagged some alleged artwork.

Vanity
I never understood the vanity of it. It must be a dark place in the mind of a person who has to compulsively post their name everywhere in public. An act indicating an incessant quest for recognition. From whom are they seeking recognition is my question?
They are almost universally recognized as sneaky vandals destroying other peoples property in the dark of night. Read: cowards.
Do they paint these giant messes on the sides of their parents houses out in Wellesley or Newton, where they most certainly come from? Doubt it.
It reminds me of the morons that vandalize nature by make little stone piles everywhere they go.

It matters because they're not crapping on their own communities, they're crapping on Boston. You do get a certain amount of that from suburbanites who have ideas about Boston that aren't really grounded in reality, and who thinks it doesn't make a difference if they come here and act like jerks.

Park defaced by highway
I wish the esplanade association would take a more aggressive stance in recognizing the impacts of the highway that plows through our park. If not them, maybe some other new group could take this mantle of actually advocating for the park and against the highway that mars it. I wish I had the time for that myself.

Probably best not to have murals where taggers like to tag, like bridge supports?
