Wanted for North End beating, robbery

Boston Police report they are looking for two guys they say beat and robbed two people taking out the trash from a Hanover Street market shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday. Read more.

Burned bus being towed past the North End

MBTA Hate Account (yep) spotted the remains of that bus that caught fire at Forest Hills being towed north past Hanover and Cross streets around 10 p.m. yesterday - possibly on its way to Everett Shops, where the T does major surgery on heavily injured buses. Read more.

Varano supports mayor's proposal

Mayor Wu today announced changes in the fee plan for North End dining: Restaurants can pay month by month to put tables on public sidewalks and parking spaces and small restaurants, restaurants without liquor licenses and those not on the main drags of Hanover and Salem streets can get "hardship" reductions in the fees that meant to pay for extra trash pickup and safety measures in the restaurant-dense neighborhood. Flier making Wu sound like a racists

Flier slipped under wiper blades along Hanover today.

Kristina Rex posts a copy of a letter Mayor Wu sent to North End restaurant owners that says the proposed outdoor-dining fee is because the people who actually live in the North End are fed up with the disruptions caused by outdoor dining there and the money would try to make things a bit better for them.

NorthEnd.page reports that, unlike in the rest of the city's neighborhoods, Boston wants restaurants to pay $7,500 to use sidewalks or street space for outdoor dining because of what it says are the unique issues related to keeping North End streets nice and tidy.

New Coast Guard cutter

The Coast Guard goes before the Boston Conservation Commission next week for permission to replace two piers and install new floating docks at its base off Hanover and Commercial streets to allow it to dock six new larger cutters currently under construction in Louisiana. Read more.

Rolando Gala's robbery attire has come down a bit over the past decade, police say: Where once he was dubbed the "Backstreet Bandit" for robbing banks clad in a fedora and button-down shirts, like the Back Street Boys, he robbed two banks on Hanover Street in the North End last month wearing nothing on his head, two untucked T-shirts, a pair of ill fitting jeans and sneakers. Workers reinstalling brass trash at Haymarket

Construction workers this week are putting back the bronze trash that commemorates Haymarket, removed a couple of years ago to make way for a nearby construction project.
