Mayor Wu said today she will ask the City Council to spend $8 million in incoming federal funds to eliminate fares on the 23, 28 and 29 bus lines over the next two years.

The 28 is already free to riders through the end of the year under a pilot launched earlier this year by acting Mayor Kim Janey. Read more.

Transit Police report arresting Terrell Brewster, 27, on charges he ended an argument with a teen on the 28 bus as it approached Dudley station by taking out a knife and stabbing the teen after they got off the bus, around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Read more.

Boston Magazine has the details of the new fares to go into effect on July 1. Senior and student passes are also not going up.

Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu (at large), who fought the increases, said she's glad to see at least some of the fares not go up. She said she and Councilor Kim Janey (Roxbury) will now fight to eliminate fares on the 28 bus route along Blue Hill Avenue between Mattapan and Dudley squares. Read more.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2008, Devonte Franklin, 16, was stabbed repeatedly on a Route 28 bus on Blue Hill Avenue at Harvard Street.

Even though there were numerous people on the bus at the time, Franklin's killer was never identified. Transit Police are asking "anyone with information, however slight," to contact them with information about his killer, by calling detectives at 617-222-1050 or by sending an anonymous text to 873873.

Punching MBTA driver

Transit Police are investigating an incident earlier this month (captured on video and posted to WorldStar, of course) in which a Route 28 bus driver shut down her bus and ran out to whale on a woman who dumped an ice-laden drink on her after the driver insisted she pay her fare. Read more.

A Roxbury 15-year-old was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail today at her first court appearance on charges she threw bleach in a man's face during a robbery on a 28 bus last week, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Transit Police report they have arrested Lai Lawnnie Douglas, 22, on charges she took part in a robbery/bleach attack on a 28 bus on Sunday. Her arrest warrant charges her with unarmed robbery, mayhem and indecent assault and battery.

A juvenile, not identified because of her age, is also charged and has been picked up, police say. Police say they know who the third suspect is and are looking for her.

Bleach womenSought.

Transit Police report they are looking for a woman packing bleach and two accomplices for an attack on a 28 bus early Sunday.

According to police, a man sitting on the bus in Grove Hall resisted getting robbed by the three women, around 2 a.m.:

A substance believed to be bleach, was doused in the victim's face during the assault and subsequent robbery. The victim was assisted by others in flushing his eyes after the assault.

When found, the women will face charges of unarmed robbery, mayhem and assault and battery. If they look familiar, contact Transit Police at 617-222-1050 or via an anonymous text tip to 873873.

Updated Friday morning.

A man shot in the stomach around 9:50 p.m. at the Dudley MBTA station was pronounced dead not long after at Boston Medical Center. WBZ reports the man was shot in the station, then stumbled onto a crowded 28 bus.

Friends are identifying him as Will Jack, also known as Courtney Jackson.

Boston Police today found and arrested Rafael Guzman, 21, charged with spitting at a driver on a 28 bus last month.

Guzman faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a public employee. His alleged accomplice, Maurice Jones, 18, of Roxbury, was arrested three days after the incident, in which Guzman allegedly responded to requests to pay his fare by spitting at the driver after which Jones made motions as if he had a gun and cursed out the driver.
