Music-cruise murder victim had escaped death at least twice before; brother gunned down in 2003

The Herald identifies the man found shot to death after a harbor cruise ship docked off Northern Avenue early yesterday as Robert McDaniel, 24.

McDaniel's brother, Joseph, was shot to death in 2003 in Framingham.

The MetroWest Daily News identified both brothers as members of the Kendall Street Thugs, a Framingham-based gang, and says Joseph was a founding member before his death at age 19 - although their mother insists the group was not a gang.

Both brothers were stabbed in a Framingham brawl in 2002; Robert survived being shot several times in 2005.

In October of last year, Ashland Police arrested Robert McDaniel and two other men for possession of a revolver loaded with hollow-point bullets after they were stopped for speeding. However, a judge threw out the gun evidence last month, saying police didn't have probable cause to search the car - in which they said the gun was hidden in a secret compartment.

McDaniel was due in Framingham District Court on Thursday to face a charge of driving with a suspended license.

Really it's a barbershop quartet.

Since the two McDaniel brothers won't be coming down for breakfast, I think the barbershop quartet is now a duo. 10 months ago, "matt01702", a clairvoyant commenter on the Metrowest story wrote this:

"Federal charge for felon in possession of a handgun, see ya in 15 years general. And the other guy is going to get smoked like his brother if he keeps this up."

Very prescient Matt. Any insight on this week's Powerball number?

Do we not have sufficient laws to eliminate gangs?

Catch a gang member dealing drugs, show that the drug dealing was the enterprise of the gang, and convict every gang member as a co-conspirator?

You need to actually show individual complicity in the conspiracy. That's not easy.

Not surprisingly, there was no quote from his father. It's interesting that if a judge had upheld the charges for an illegal firearm with bullets that could kill a person if they hit him in the arm, he may still be alive, in prison, but alive. He'll be sorely missed--by nobody.

Can anyone tell us what cruise they were on? (besides it being the Viking starliner) i.e. Was it a private party, a ticketed event open to the public, or ?? (or perhaps a Kendall street thugs corporate event)

The full title of the event was:

Hitmakerz/Cokeboys Boat Cruise Hosted by Lou Armstrong & French Montana

I guess "Chinx Drugz" was busy that night...

PS - French Montana isn't a guy named John Phillipe from Billings. He takes his stage surname from Tony Montana...you know, the role model from Scarface. A google image search of the guy results in, well, expected results.

A documented story of Satchmo's childhood has him walking down the street shooting two revolvers like a Cowboy.

Males 21+

That's a quality boat cruise right there.

These are some really heartless comments. I don't know the guy who died, but i know that, like anybody who dies, he will be missed by people such as his family and friends...Just because a man is associated with a gang or into drugs doesn't mean the person is a terrible individual. Not to say i condone gang and drug activity, but growing up in an environment with that kind of stuff everywhere, i can say that these people aren't horrible, they just strayed down the wrong path. They just need to be redirected before they cause serious harm to themselves, their families or others....Just a thought i guess..

thank you and you are very right. no one perso thought about his family and friends. just one less "banger" on the streets right. heartless.

I went to school with this kid, and you're absolutely right, due to circumstances, people go down the wrong path because they do not see another way out. I mean, look at the facts here; this young man's brother was shot to death just a few years back. Can you imagine the pain, anger and confusion he must have been feeling? Although some people take circumstances like that as a way to move forward and do better, other people might not be as strong, or have the know-how to make things better, and for that I cannot fault Rob. Until you know where someone is coming from, what they've seen or what type of person they were, please do not make such insensitive comments, especially if they have passed away. Although Rob and I lived different life-styles and chose different paths throughout our lives, I can say with certainty that he was a warm, caring individual who had a good family and many friends. I'm sure some of the people who have slandered him on here cannot say the same. To the person who said no one will miss Rob now that he is gone, you are truly mistaken. I will certainly miss him and I know hundreds of people from different walks of life (not "gang-members") who will miss him dearly, and who were positively impacted by his short-lived life. You should instead worry about who would mourn YOU if you to leave this Earth today (God forbid) because by the ugly words that come out of some of your mouths towards a life lost...I question whether or not you have made a positive impact on people's lives of those around you. Who will mourn and defend you when you're gone? Instead of sitting on here writing trash, work on increasing that number of people the rest of your days here on Earth. Rest in Peace Robert McDaniel.

Very well put.

Yes, I agree...Robert was my first cousin and it saddens me to see the comments that some people put on here. He was a human just like we are. Yes, his brother Joey was killed in 2003, and both of them will be greatly missed...Glad to know that you all have "perfect families"...My father had to fly out for the funeral and almost got stuck due to Hurricane Irene. Also, no his father did not comment.....why?? Probably because he is grieving over losing his second son.....smh...so sad...Joey and Robert will be missed...I love you guys...RIP....until we meet again!!!

I am so sick to my stomach reading some of these comments... Apparently you did not know rob and all you know are the things you have read about him.... I went to school with rob and used to hang out with him and he was a real good person. If you needed him he was there. How could you people be so heartless? You speak without even thinking about his poor parents who have lost both their sons. Or his friends that loved him. You should all be ashamed!!!! I will truly miss rob. R.I.P. Rob
