My at-the-time girl friend's apartment in Brighton was broken into many years ago. She came back to find the door busted and wide open and decided it was safer to call the cops before entering, since who knows who might still be there. Once she got in, her second thought was, "Where's the cat?" Answer: Thankfully, cowering under the bed. We "scolded" her ("Why didn't you bite that burglar?") while giving her big hugs.
I've heard that if a pet gets out, you can try putting a piece of clothing you were recently wearing, like a sweatshirt, that smells like you outside on the front and/or back steps so the animal can find its way home. Often when they get out they can get confused, scared and lost so having a scent they recognize that they can track can often help lead them home. Good luck!!
This kitty looks almost exactly like mine... and back when my gf lived in Allston, someone also broke into her apartment. Smashed in the bathroom window (and the sink, as well), grabbed a bunch of stuff and left.
Thankfully... Lola never left... we found her just chilling like nothing ever happened. "Hai guys. nbd!"
Hopefully she's just found a warm spot to shelter and will venture back home soon.
A young cat of mine got lost for 6 weeks once, and once we found her and took her back home, never left the backyard again (long ago in a rural area; my city cats are indoor cats, full stop). She lived to the ripe old age of twenty, most of which she spent glued to my side.
Definitely leave out clothes or used pillowcases, litter box, and familiar food. Alert shelters and local vets, whether she's microchipped or not - someone well-meaning might take her in without realizing she has a family who misses her. Post signs and ask neighbors to keep an eye out in case you are away when she comes back.
Good luck! And when you're reunited, consider the Kitty Convict Project to make it more obvious, in case of future escapes, that she belongs at home and not roaming the neighborhood. http://www.explodingkittens.com/kittyconvict

Nooo!
Keanu!!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful baby!
Best wishes on a safe return home!
I hope the burglars, if found, can be charged with animal endangerment too. (That might be optimistic on both counts...)
so cute
I hope the kitten is safely found
Hope he's just hiding

I hope this story has the same happy ending.
Something to try...

With cats, it's particularly helpful if you have some of their old litter (as gross as it sounds), and can put that out

Hope kitten comes home safe. (From the looks of owner's twitter, sounds like she was hiding outside, then ran away. Sad.)
Adam, any further details on this break-in? Date, time of day/night, # of perps, etc.
Oh Gawd

A little more on how she disappeared
