This episode is the latest in a fight between the board and McKenna that began in late January, when some trustees asked McKenna to step down and said they intended to appoint former state attorney general Martha Coakley in her place.

Regan Communications started doing PR for Suffolk 20+ years ago. After the first contract, Regan was able to get several friends & employees on the Suffolk Board of Trustees, and even had one of his employees simultaneously working as the Suffolk U head of public relations. After this careful seeding, Regan Communications was rubberstamped for PR work on behalf of Suffolk, regardless of how much the Regan product sucked (remember those smirky, arrogant T ads a couple of year ago?). McKenna called shenanigans, and some of those trustees who wanted her to be fired a month+ ago were tied to Regan.
