Diane Dwyer snapped the message somebody was beaming onto the Old State House last night, on the eve of both the anniversary of the Boston Massacre and Mayor Wu's testimony before a Congressional committee about immigration and ICE.

Mayor Wu did an excellent job yesterday at the hearings. Thank you Mayor Wu for representing us in Boston!

I was impressed. From what I heard on local radio news she was strong. From someone who is skeptical about the Mayor’s motivations around development and her stewardship of the city &c.. I was really impressed. She kicked ass. The Republicans didn’t have the same slam dunk situation with her that they had with Pres. Gay and the others, whose positions were utterly indefensible.
That's right, you get in there!

That's right, you get in there! It's not about you, it's not about your favorite imaginary grievance, but you get in there and make it about you!

Ok, so what's the point if not to expand the debate?
It’s not just my grievance.
It’s not imaginary to Professor Gay, and Harvard who basically made the President of Harvard a glorified administrative dean without the requisite gravitas and connections to steer the ship through a crisis. This object lesson, and the contrast between The Mayors’ testimony versus The Presidents’ testimony is acutely relevant in this moment for the both the Democratic leadership to grasp and for Democrats to grasp, because no matter how much Philby - I mean- Trump overreaches the pendulum can only swing back so far for us in the midterms for an untrustworthy Democratic Party in the throes of an identity crisis, and that’s because we Democrats have not learned our lesson, which is we can’t be both the Democratic Party and the Socialist-Progressive Party.
It’s not imaginary to the moribund Democratic Party who had four years to get our heads out of our asses who can get out from behind their aide’s keyboards and teleprompters. As a Party we’re wholly dependent on Pavlovian buzzwords to give dopamine hits to media consumers conditioned to ignore our self interest
We need candidates who can perform in person on uncertain and unfriendly grounds. Ok, so yeah, I interjected my fears that the Mayor’s solid performance would be taken as a green light for the Party and the mutual messaging complex to retreat into dysfunction.
"expand the debate"

By your definition, wandering into a seminar on quantum mechanics and trying to redirect the discussion to the best way to make a burrito is "expanding the debate".
