Trotting turkeys terminate turnpike traffic
By adamg on Sun, 04/03/2016 - 2:51pm
Vicki the roving UHub photographer wasn't doing much roving on the turnpike in Natick this afternoon when turkeys began turkeying all over the place, bringing traffic on both sides to a complete halt.
She did get a brief glimpse of one of the walking Butterballs by the Jersey barriers as she inched forward westbound.
Betherie, meanwhile, had a ringside seat for the capture of one of the birds:

Congratulations to the TLF
Waiting for an announcement from the TLF on the success of their action.

Friday Night, Newton
I almost ran over a whole flock on Walnut Street in Newton on Friday night. It was so dark, I didn't see them until I was right up on them. Lucky for them, they were all out of range of my car, a few feet in the other lane, when I reached them.
Is this some concerted Turkey Lives Matter effort to stop traffic?

Just hit 'em!
Come on, people. You spend $50,000 on a huge pick up or SUV that weighs three tons and can drive through a mud hole or blizzard or whatever, but you're afraid to run down Thanksgiving dinner?
Bad Idea
I sincerely hope that you are joking.
My niece's husband is an insurance adjuster. If you want to hear lots of gory stories about what hitting a turkey can do to a motor vehicle, stop by while he's frying the Thanksgiving Dinner contribution.
In short: it can seriously eff up your ride. Broken windows, destroyed upholstery, wrecked headlights and hoods, etc.
No need to stop though.
Slow down and keep going, they will get out of your way.
Right.
And I have a bridge in New York City that's for sale if you're interested.
You don't hit 'em with your windshield
I've hit a turkey with my much-less-than-$50,000 sedan. Stupid thing flew out right in front of the car. Bam, done, small car 1, large turkey 0, not a scratch on the car and some coyote got a free dinner.
Those turkeys are NOT prime Thanksgiving dinner!
They're way too tough for that, if one gets the drift!
You might get an animal-cruelty ticket or something
Do you want to take the chance the police would shrug it off the way they would if it were a cyclist or pedestrian?
