Northeastern tells students, staff returning home from some countries to stay home for a couple weeks

Northeastern University is telling students and staff returning to Boston from China, South Korea, Italy or Iran to "self-isolate" for 14 days to ensure they haven't been infected with Covid-19.
Northeastern has technology and online capabilities that can enable classes and work to progress remotely.

Why's that?
If you don't like your Northeastern student/staff neighbors, wouldn't you be happy that they're away at campus rather than at home making noise etc? Or are these just lonely people hoping to have someone to talk to through the walls?
