At least somebody's on a streak at Fenway

Robert Orthman captured the security guy tackling a streaker on the infield at Fenway tonight:

An earlier streak.

How were streakers treated in the 70s during the streaking craze? There was even a song called The Streak which went top of the charts. I was a kid and remember my mother yelling at me to look away. Haaa!!

i was at a game one night in 2005 right around this time of the year. i say that because it’s worth noting that there are a lot of drunk college kids at games in september getting their first fenway experience. i was with a bunch of friends and about halfway through the game a few of us went under to use the bathroom. typical fenway bathroom scene with 25-30 guys all facing the walls and giving all that beer they’d been drinking back to the fenway plumbing system. as i was finishing up i heard someone say “DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU GET IN TROUBLE FOR RUNNING OUT ONTO THE FIELD?!?” almost instantly this young man had 10-15 guys giving him their advice. they assured him that running on the field was fine and that the red sox didn’t mind at all. one guy told him that it was an annual college tradition and the red sox would put him on the scoreboard and probably give him tickets to a future game. another guy told him that he would be brought into the red sox clubhouse where all the players would sign autographs and someone might even give him a bat or a baseball. we went back to our seats and waited. the kid came slowly up the runway and walked down the steps toward the field near the pesky pole. we were mesmerized. he waited until the first out of the inning and made his move. he hopped over the wall on to the field and began to slowly walk towards wily mo peña who was playing right field that night. peña was a huge guy and i started to worry about what might happen to the kid if he made it that far. as he approached the big right fielder he held out his right hand to shake hands. peña looked at him with a confused face and at this exact moment two security guards smashed into the kid like nfl linebackers blindsiding a defenseless quarterback. he was quickly pulled up off the ground and escorted out through the groundskeepers alley. i don’t think he was taken to the red sox clubhouse and i doubt he got any autographs. i wondered later what he must have been thinking sitting in the D4 drunk tank waiting for the bailsbond guy to get there to get him released. i also thought about him the next morning when he was most likely standing in front of a judge in roxbury district court. that’s 17 years ago now. he’s probably married with kids. i wonder if he’ll ever tell his kids about the night he almost shook wily mo peña’s hand in right field at fenway park?
