Nazis show up at South Boston parade

By adamg on Sun., 3/20/2022 - 1:46 pm
Nazis at St. Patrick's Day Parade

See it larger.

Sarah Z spotted Nazis on West Broadway, goes "WTF."

Why, yes, they have appropriated the Celtic Cross as a symbol; but if you need more proof, that weird scribble on the sign is their more "official" logo. Background on local Nazis.

The Klan most definitely showed up in Southie during busing. The locals were not very welcoming, not because of the Klan’s racism though, it was the anti-Catholicism that did it.

When the KKK showed up in Southie during busing, and the locals weren't very welcoming to them, it was, in a way, due to the KKK's bigotry--against Catholics. The KKK has a long, long history of being racist towards all kinds of people--i. e. blacks, Catholics, Jews---hell, you name it.

Neutral (Sort of)

Ireland tacitly gave an air corridor to the English near Derry over Donegal.

German pilots who crashed in Ireland were put into jail. (Germany had "accidently" bombed Dublin in 1940).

The Irish government locked up every IRA member that they could charge for the war to keep them from causing trouble in England.

Allied pilots who crashed somehow got dropped at a small border crossing between Fermanagh and Leitrim.

Ireland also provided the weather reports for DDay too.

The people who use "Irish pride" as a cover for their white supremacy (well, this particular group is hardly covering it...) often use "Irish" as a synonym for "white." I've worked in communities where racist white/Irish-identifying people will describe strangers visually as "Irish" when they know nothing of their heritage. This happened so many times at one school where I worked, where parents would be talking about how there were four "Irish" boys in the class and they're talking about the short one with blonde hair (who I happen to know is Jewish and whose last name is Levine, but sure).

These are of course people who have not been to Ireland nor have their parents, and they know nothing about Ireland. They insist though that "wanting to be around mostly Irish people" is exactly the same as POC and immigrants flocking together to have people who understand their culture and understand being a marginalized person.

If taken literally, "Keep Boston Irish" is hilarious when you consider that it certainly wasn't Irish to start with, but if it means white, well...it's the perfect slogan for racists who are too cowardly to say the quiet part out loud.

They'll talk about how they were victims of racism too. I've had several "Irish are minorities" folks from Dorchester and Southie tell me about how there was some Italian-American teacher or coach or something at B.C. High who only picked Italian kids for his whatever, and this is an example of discrimination against Irish Americans.

Never mind that 1) you can point to literally one instance of this during your/your parents' lifetime 2) doesn't choosing only Italian-American white children also marginalize, I don't know, groups of people other than Irish-American white children? And if B.C. High was just that white whenever this urban legend purportedly happened...well...

"systemic racism" against the Irish would mean you gave a math test to both Irish and Italian kids, and the Irish kids scored lower than the Italian kids, so you accuse the testing strategy of being racist.

That's how how the term "systemic racism" is being used today. It's when you infer racism based on outcomes, not on intent.

There is nothing tolerable about Nazis or Nazism. There is no place in a civil society for those who find righteousness in and profess a desire to continue the genocide and destruction that Adolf Hitler started. And that is who these people are and what they believe in.

A Proposal

By anon
Sun, 03/20/2022 - 7:50pm

Don't you think it's time we stopped calling these goofballs "Nazis"? It only assigns power to them. There have not been any actual Nazis on this planet since the last one that participated in Hitler's Third Reich finally dropped dead, which was probably within recent memory, and they were very, very old. These current clowns are just babies playing dress up. Granted it's very dangerous dress up, and they deserve to be stomped out, but they are not "Nazis". People go around calling themselves Knights Templar and Rosicrucians too, but this isn't the 12th Century when there actually were such people.

You might be underestimating them

By brianjdamico
Sun, 03/20/2022 - 9:04pm

While we can never let them succeed, I do believe they will continue to try to create a critical mass of hate filled white men willing to take up arms against those they perceive as enemies of themselves and the "white race." These people are dangerous and capable of violence, to consider them as anything less than capable is to look the other way until they start acting out their hate filled beliefs.

From the ADL:

NSC members consider themselves soldiers fighting a war against a hostile, Jewish-controlled system that is deliberately plotting the extinction of the white race. Their goal is to form an underground network of white men who are willing to fight against their perceived enemies through localized direct actions.
